Gerard Pique announces his retirement plans

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said he will retire from the Spanish national side following the 2018 football World Cup final in Russia. He announced this after Spain scored a 2-0 win in Albania on Sunday night.

The 29-year-old defender from the Catalan region of Spain was on social network 'Twitter' accused of having deliberately cut the sleeves of his Spain shirt so as not to wear the Spanish flag.


World Cup Qualifier Preview: Venezuela vs Brazil

Brazil's national football team will face Venezuela on Tuesday in a South American World Cup qualifier for Russia 2018 without star player Neymar. Neymar received a one-match ban after being shown a second yellow card during the qualifier match against Bolivia on October 6, in which Brazil won 5-0.

Neymar left the Brazil camp after the match and is expected to return to his Spanish club Barcelona on Monday.


World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria, Egypt and Tunisia win. Cameroon held

Cameroon drew 1-1 with Algeria in their away match of the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Algiers. Algeria, coached by Serbian Milovan Rajevac, scored the opener through striker El Arbi Hillal Soudani in the seventh minute on Sunday evening before Benjamin Moukandjo equalized for the Indomitable Lions 17 minutes later.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria managed to secure a precious away win against Zambia 2-1, as the Super Eagles stand on top of Group 8 with three points, followed by Cameroon and Algeria with 1 point each, while Zambia is fourth with no points.


World Cup Qualifier: Costa, Nolito help Spain overcome Albania

Spain overcame Albania 2-0 in an away qualifier in Shkoder to keep their campaign on track to qualify for the 2018 World Cup football tournament in Russia.

The victory in the Loro Borici Stadium on Sunday evening came thanks to second half goals from Diego Costa and Nolitio, putting Spain in a strong position within the group as they also tied Italy in the an earlier away qualifier.


World Cup Qualifiers: Spain, Italy, Israel and Croatia win

Spain beat Albania 2-0 in a Group G qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup in Russia thanks to second half goals from Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Manchester City attacker Nolito. The win came at a cost though with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos out for a month with an injury he suffered during the game.

The Real Madrid and national team captain sprained a ligament in his left knee when he took a bad fall in the 79th minute at Loro Borici Stadium.


World Cup Qualifier: Müller brace powers Germany past Czech Republic

Thomas Müller scored a brace as Germany defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 in a World Cup Qualifying Group C match on Saturday night.

The reigning FIFA World Cup champions picked up their second win in as many games, as goals from Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos secured a comfortable win at the sold out Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.


World Cup Qualifier: Janssen, Promes impress as Netherlands crush Belarus 4-1

The Netherlands football team scored a comfortable 4-1 win over Belarus in a 2018 World Cup qualifying Group A encounter in the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam. After the 1-1 draw in Sweden last month, the Dutch on Friday needed a win against Belarus, who had drawn 0-0 against France in the first tie.

Coach Danny Blind had lined up almost the same team as against Sweden, but he favoured Maarten Stekelenburg as goalkeeper over Jeroen Zoet and Rick Karsdorp debuted as right back in place of the injured Daryl Janmaat.
