Yuna Kim revealed as Winter Youth Olympic Games Ambassador for Innsbruck 2012

As the Austrian city of Innsbruck celebrates 100 days to go until the first ever Winter Youth Olympic Games in January 2012, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is pleased to announce that figure skater and Olympic champion Yuna Kim from the Republic of Korea is the latest Winter Youth Olympic Games Ambassador.

Twenty-one-year-old Kim's appointment follows the announcement of her fellow Winter Youth Olympic Games Ambassadors Lindsey Vonn and Benjamin Raich, who will play a key part in supporting the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck.

Decorated medallists adorn list of Athlete Role Models for Innsbruck 2012

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced the list of Innsbruck 2012 Athlete Role Models (ARMs) for the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games taking place from 13 to 22 January in Innsbruck, Austria. The list features a number of star athletes nominated by the International Federations taking part in the Winter Youth Olympic Games and members of the IOC Athletes' Commission, led by Chairman and Olympic sprinter Frank Fredericks, who will also be on hand in Innsbruck to mentor the roughly 1,000 young athletes taking part.

"The International Federations have selected a fantastic collection of great athletes, who inspire not only on the field of play but off it as well," said Fredericks. "I am looking forward to joining them in Innsbruck next year, where I'm sure the young athletes will learn a great deal from them about what it takes to be at the top and how to live by the Olympic values."

Sochi rallying nation behind Games as Coordination Commission wraps up 6th visit

The IOC Coordination Commission for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games today concluded its sixth meeting in Sochi, Russia (12-14 September), noting the good progress being made at all levels, in particular measures to generate interest in the Games across the country.

Coordination Commission Chairman Jean-Claude Killy said: “We have been very impressed with the way the organisers have proactively reached out to people in every corner of the country to make them feel part of the Sochi Games. The 2014 fan club is now well and truly in place across this great nation.”

Countdown on as final Coordination Commission visit concludes in Innsbruck

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s Coordination Commission for the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 2012 today concluded its fourth and final visit to the Austrian host city. The Coordination Commission visit took place after three successful days of Chefs de Mission meetings with all 65 nations that will compete in Innsbruck.

With 129 days to go until the Opening Ceremony, the Innsbruck Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (IYOGOC) remains on track as it enters the operational readiness phase in its planning.

Gunilla Lindberg to Chair PyeongChang 2018 Coordination Commission

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge has appointed Ms Gunilla Lindberg to chair the Coordination Commission for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, Republic of Korea, in 2018. PyeongChang was awarded the 2018 Olympic Winter Games last month in Durban. Lindberg will lead a strong, multinational team of men and women, who will be responsible for assisting and guiding the PyeongChang Organising Committee during the period leading up to the Olympic Winter Games, as well as monitoring the progress of preparations.

Lindberg, who led the 2018 Evaluation Commission, will be rejoining the IOC Executive Board as of the end of the month, building on her two previous mandates as a member (2000-2004) and Vice-President (2004-2008). An IOC member since 1996 and Secretary General of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) since 2004, Lindberg brings vast experience from her time spent on Coordination Commissions for five Olympic Games.
