Harrison sends Raonic packing from US Open, Wozniacki beats Kuznetsova

American qualifier Ryan Harrison has pulled off the biggest upset so far at the ongoing US Open, stunning fifth-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 7-5, 6-1 in second-round tennis action.

Raonic appeared to be in total control when he went up a break in the third set, but leg cramps began severely hampering his movement and allowed Harrison to climb back into the match on Wednesday.

Indian veteran trio advance at US Open

Indian tennis stars Leander Paes, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna all began their US Open campaigns on a positive note, winning their respective opening round matches at Flushing Meadows, New York.

Bopanna kicked off India's day with a sweat-inducing 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3 win with his Danish partner Frederik Nielsen over 16th seeds Radek Stepanek and Nenad Zimonjic in the first round men's doubles on Wednesday.

Serena powers down 12 aces to cruise into US Open Second Round

Top seed Serena Williams outplayed unseeded Russia's Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-3 in a potentially tricky first round encounter at the US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York on Tuesday.

Williams needed to be right on the money from the start given the quality of opposition she was up against, and she powered down 12 aces to demolish Makarova in 63 minutes.

Olympic Gold medalist Monica Puig crashes out of US Open

Puerto Rico's Monica Puig, whose dream run to a gold medal was one of the feel-good stories of the Rio Games, came down to earth at the US Open tennis championship where China's Saisai Zheng dealt her a 6-4, 6-2 defeat in the first round.

The 22-year-old Puig was not in her best form entering the final Grand Slam event of the year and her performance on Monday confirmed the expectations of some tennis analysts.

Angelique Kerber cruises in first round of US Open

No.2 seeded Angelique Kerber started her US Open tennis campaign with a comfortable win against Polona Hercog, who retired from the match down 0-6, 0-1.

"To be honest, it's never the way I would like to finish the match, but I went out there to feel my rhythm and start the tournament well. I played the first set really good, so this is what I will take from this match, that I'm playing my tennis," Kerber said after the match here on Monday.

Djokovic battles past Janowicz in US Open first round

DjokovicWorld No.1 Novak Djokovic got his US Open tennis title defence off to a winning start with a topsy-turvy four-set triumph over Jerzy Janowicz at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The top seed prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 to keep his bid for 10 straight semi-finals or better at the Flushing Meadows intact.

Hampered by knee and lower back injuries for the first half of the season, Janowicz came into the match at No.247 in the men's singles rankings and looking to reach the second round in New York for the first time since 2014.
