Gayle force rocks Aussie boat

gayle_storm.jpgThe much maligned West Indies cricket team after an embarrassing summer in England finally showed their prowess in the shortest version of the game humbling the mighty Aussies by 7 wickets in the Group of Death in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Mild mannered Chris Gayle put on his mighty maroon costume and stormed onto the field smashing a heroic 88 from 50 balls to all but propel West Indies into the Super 8s stage of the World Cup.

Clubbed in a group with Sri Lanka, the manner of today's victory was as important as the result itself, leavin

New Zealand edge Scotland in high-scoring encounter

nz_sco.jpgBoth New Zealand and Scotland would have looked out the window in the morning and anticipated little cricket today. However when the rain gods decided to pause for breath, and the ground staff at The Oval produced a magic 30 minute turn around, we were treated to some good old fashioned 7-overs a side gully cricket.

With the loss of wickets no longer part of the equation, the batsmen for either side were given a licence to thrill, and both sides to their credit came to party. One hundred and seventy nine runs were scored in 13 overs between Scotland and New Zealand, in what turned out to be an excellent appetizer for the Gayle th

collingwood.jpgAfter all the hype and hoopla of the Indian Premier League, one almost fell sorry for the T20 World Cup akin to a Conan O'Brien having to follow a Jay Leno on stage. With minnows like Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands thrown into the mix for the early rounds, the chatter around bars and offices across the cricketing world was the same - "Yeah, will probably watch it when the Super 8s start."

Throw in the loss of the host's star attractions - Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen

Bangladesh set to take the game to India

E-mail Print
rubel.jpgBangladesh coach Jamie Siddons is expecting the Tigers to arrive at the party from their very first match of the ICC T20 World Cup against India at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

"I think everyone knows that we are dangerous at any time. We have some potential match-winners,,,but our consistency has not been there. We don't want to lose this game, we want to win it but we are the underdogs and we are very relaxed about the game. We want to put our best foot forward and put them under some pressure" said Siddons while speaking to the media at Trent Bridge today.

The Bangladesh side had a three-hour training session at Lady Bay just across the road from Trent Bridge in the morning after which Si

Battling Ireland lose to South Africa by 30 runs

sa_ire.jpgNiall O'Brien evoked memories of his famous match winning knock against Pakistan in 2007 with a magnificent 62 from 52 balls against South Africa at Southgate.

The Northamptonshire left hander displayed his full range of stokes in a innings which drew widespread applause from the assembled crowd. O'Brien showed his team mates the perfect formula for batting in the abbreviated format of the game, combining quick running with boundaries at regular intervals.

Chasing a victory target of 164, Ireland and Jeremy Bray in particular got off to a flier, as the tall left hander crashed four boundaries in his 12 ba

rohit_sharma_t20.jpgIndia gave a strong statement of intent to all the challengers of their T20 World Champions title when they easily dismantled Pakistan in the final warm-up match before the real thing begins. India, led by an excellent batting performance from Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, reached the target of 159 set by Pakistan with 9 wickets and 3 full overs to spare.

The tie, designated by the ICC as a "Catch the Spirit" match, served as a fundraiser to help support families of the victims of the attack on the Sri Lanka team and officials in Lahore in March. Crowds started

New Zealand beat India by 9 runs in warm-up game

sharma_mcc.jpgNew Zealand kept up their perfect T20 record against India as they beat the World Champions by 9 runs in the first official warm-up game for either side heading into the T20 World Cup in England.

India struggling with injuries and fitness before the tournament, put out a competent eleven to combat a New Zealand side who had already spent a week in England, and had played a couple of practice games against the likes of Bangladesh and Netherlands.

The Kiwis performed well as a batting unit, with Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor both contributing well at the top of the order, and Scott Styris and James Franklin playing useful cameos near the
