Twice in the last five years we have witnessed a Manchester United – Barcelona finals in the UEFA Champions League. Twice the tie has finished in favour of the Spanish champions. For a club like Manchester United defeat is always a hard pill to swallow. They know that the secret of Barca’s success has been their youth academy graduates who are all big names not only in Catalan households but worldwide now. What Manchester United wouldn’t give to get one of those starlets to Old Trafford! Turns out only 15 million pounds might be enough.

Thiago Alcantara is a player of immense talent and is a player in mould of the world’s best midfielder, Xavi. He possesses remarkable playmaking qualities and can also play that fatal final pass as well as score goals from the midfield. Alcantara also has a very shrewd agent as it turns out. The player's release clause is as high as 77 million pounds. But if he doesn’t play enough games, that release clause drops down to a paltry 15 million pounds, which for his talent is a very good price. Alcantara has also been vocally dissatisfied with his playing time under new coach Tito Vilanova. Manchester United have been tracking the player for some time now and this pieces of information may just be enough for United to simply activate his release clause and circumvent all the hassles of negotiating with the parent club.

24 year old Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has been a player in demand of late. The young goal poacher has been linked heavily to the Madrid clubs, Atletico and Real, and now it appears that the Italian champions Juventus have decided to join the race for the forward according to Italian paper Tuttosport.

The Mexican has been in tremendous form for the English champions scoring many vital goals, most of them from the bench. A total of 18 goals in all competitions this season is a respectable return for any striker, but especially so for someone who has mostly played as a substitute. The last of those 18 goals against West Brom in Sir Alex Ferguson's final game as a manager was also the 50th of his Manchester United career. The player was earmarked as a special talent when he was brought to Old Trafford three years ago from local club Guadalajara. It’s fair to say that the striker has not disappointed. Comparisons have even been made to the Manchester United legend, Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer.

There appears to be an increasing sense of clarity over the future of Auxerre forward and Arsenal target Yaya Sanogo. After reports emerged of Auxerre looking to persuade Sanogo to prolong his stay at the club with a brand new deal, consisting of a better pay grade, the player himself has taken to the press to rubbish the claims and reassure fans that a move to Arsenal is very much on this summer.

Sanogo was quoted by Sky Sports, saying:  "Arsenal could be a great club for me, I scored nine goals this season with Auxerre and they think I can improve my level in England. I am pleased to be following in the footsteps of Abou Diaby who came through from Auxerre. There are many teams interested in me, but Arsenal is my choice."

In an unexpected turn of events, which could make the whole transfer debate surrounding Wayne Rooney seem uglier, the Daily Mirror claims that the 27 year old forward has stated that he has not put in any kind of transfer request this season, and that the Manchester United officials have fabricated the entire story to use it as an excuse to show him the door.

Rooney has also reignited debates regarding the treatment of certain surplus players in the United team. Last season Dimitar Berbatov also lashed out at the then manager Sir Alex Ferguson, while leaving the club, saying that he wasn’t treated with respect by the Scot during his later years at the club. Rooney joins a long list of players who have managed to get on the wrong side of Sir Alex, and have felt the full brunt of his ire.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to battle it out for the signature of a Brazilian superstar this summer, and no we’re not talking about Neymar. The Daily Mail reports that the object of their combined affections is Chelsea defender David Luiz, who the Blues are reportedly quite open to selling with incoming coach Jose Mourinho not entirely convinced with the Brazilian’s style of defending.

Chelsea bought the 26 year old from Benfica in 2011 for a fee of £21 million and Luiz has evolved quite dramatically in the two years that he has spent with the Blues. Having started out as a centre back for the first year and a half at Chelsea, Luiz was constantly criticised for his uncontrolled attacking instincts, often at the expense of his defensive duties.

Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid will part ways after the final two matches in the La Liga this season, leaving a few doubting Chelsea fans eagerly awaiting the day the appointing of ‘The Special One’ as their chief tactician becomes official. For most though it is a foregone conclusion, and the Daily Star reports that the Portuguese is already deciding his targets for the summer.
