Disgruntled Samba quits Blackburn for Anzhi

Blackburn's unsettled defender Chris Samba has joined Russian moneybags Anzhi Makhachala. Although the club did not disclose the transfer fee involved, the Daily Mail suggests that the figure is around the £11 million mark.

Samba had made his intentions to leave the club clear in January, when he had lodged a transfer request amidst interest from the likes of QPR and Tottenham. Although Blackburn managed to prevent a move to any of the other English clubs, they finally had to sanction a move to Anzhi, with the player having not played for the club since 2nd of January despite being fit.

Arshavin completes loan move to Zenit

Andrei Arshavin has ended his nightmare of a season at Arsenal by making a loan move to Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg on the last day of the Russian transfer window.

A statement on Arsenal's website read, “Andrei Arshavin has joined Russian Premier League champions Zenit St Petersburg on loan for the remainder of the 2011/12 English Premier League season. The Russia captain returns to his home city and former club, managed by Luciano Spalletti, in order to maximise his opportunities for regular first-team football ahead of Euro 2012 in June. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Andrei well during his spell with Zenit.”

Giggs signs one year extension at Man United

The marathon man of the Premier League era, Ryan Giggs, has signed a one year contract extension at Manchester United today, thus taking him into his 22nd season with the Red Devils. The Welsh veteran has been his usual influential self this season, scoring three goals from 22 appearances. But more importantly he has the best minutes per assists ratio in the Premier League, as showcased by his vital assists in recent games against Arsenal and Chelsea. The 38 year-old's powers have shown no signs of diminishing and he remains hungry even after accumulating the largest medals haul of any player in the British game.

Sir Alex Ferguson was effusive in his praise of the player who made his debut back in March 1991, saying, "Ryan is a marvellous player. In many ways, he epitomises all my teams here at United: he has constantly re-invented himself, adapted to the changing nature of the game and retained that desire and hunger for success.

Bayern snap up highly rated winger Xherdan Shaqiri

German giants Bayern Munich have beaten the likes of Galatasaray and Manchester United to the signature of Basel winger Xherdan Shaqiri. The 20-year old will join Bayern in the summer.

A statement on Bayern's website read, “Bayern Munich and FC Basel 1893 have agreed the terms of a transfer deal for 20-year-old Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri. The 1.69 m / 5 ft 6 in midfielder, who completed his obligatory pre-transfer medical in Munich this week, has signed a four-year contract with FC Bayern, dated from 1 July 2012 until 30 June 2016.”

Thibaut Courtois has no interest in being Cech’s understudy

Chelsea keeper, Thibaut Courtois, who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, has expressed his desire to stay on at with the Los Rojiblancos for another season and improve his trade after showing impressive form with the Copa del Rey winners.

Aside from the belief he has that the Blues are the team to be with in the coming years, he maintains he wants to start regularly. Talking to Yahoo News he said,”I know Chelsea are a fair club. The board are smart people and know I need to play. I like the Chelsea project with young players very much. In two or three years Chelsea will have a team to win everything."

Chelsea looking to land Jamaican sensation

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is certainly leaving no stone unturned in strengthening the youth ranks of his club. According to reports in The Metro, the Blues have now made an approach to sign young forward Leon Bailey, who plies his trade at Slovakian side Trencin.

The 17 year old Jamaican, who has represented his country at the Under 23 level, is considered a fast developing forward, who is expected to turn out to become one of the hottest youth strikers in Europe in due course. The youngster, who has been endorsed by Nike recently, is also thus believed to be a target for Manchester United and Ajax, with an unnamed Belgian club reportedly showcasing a keen interest in landing him on loan this summer.
