Maxi Rodriguez to return home to Newell's Old Boys

Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez is set to make a return to Argentine club Newell's Old Boys this summer, reported ESPN Soccernet. The Argentine was expected to leave Anfield this summer after a low key season on Merseyside where he managed just 12 League appearances.

The 31 year-old started his career with Newell Old Boys and played for their first team for three years before leaving for Spanish side Espanyol in 2002. After three years with the Catalan club, he moved to Atletico Madrid where he played till 2010. He was taken to Anfield by then manager Rafa Benitez and despite a good goal scoring return whenever he played, he was consistently left out of the first team by Kenny Dalglish. The player was unhappy with his role in the team and was said to be eyeing a move away from Liverpool.

Arsenal and Liverpool chase 'The Beast of Vallecas'

Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has emerged as a transfer target for the Premier League duo of Liverpool and Arsenal.

26 year old Negredo was a part of the Euro 2012 Spanish squad, and has impressed both English sides, replacing compatriot Fernando Llorente of Athletic Bilbao as a key transfer target for the clubs, reports Spanish newspaper AS. It is believed that both managers may be on the lookout for strikers. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may bid for the former Real Madrid man if Robin van Persie leaves Arsenal, and Liverpool boss may opt for the Spaniard in a bid to replace Andy Carroll if the English forward moves out of the club, maybe on loan.

Modric saga to end after Real Madrid's £40 m bid, Moutinho to replace him

The Luka Modric transfer debacle seems to be edging closer to an end after the Telegraph reported that Spanish champions Real Madrid have decided to splash their cash again by tabling a whopping £40 million bid for the Croatian. The playmaker was always thought to be on his way out of the White Hart Lane after Spurs missed out on a possible Champions League spot after arch-rivals Chelsea surprisingly won the Champions League.

The 26 year old is a much wanted star with top clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain all reportedly keen on signing the Croatian playmaker. However, of late, interest in the player seemed to have cooled off, only for the silence to be broken with this massive £40 million offer. Real Madrid were looking the favourites to sign Modric ever since they joined the running. Also, Chelsea had decided to move for Brazilian starlet Oscar instead and Manchester United had dropped out much sooner having been put off by the high transfer fee demanded by Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy.

Nicky Shorey returns home to Reading for second spell

Reading Football Club announced today that defender Nicky Shorey will return to the Royals for the upcoming season. The left back, who played 286 games for the Royals in a seven-year spell from 2001 to 2008, and was voted by the fans as the best left back in the club's history, has signed a one-year deal with the additional option of a second season.

The Essex-born defender, who has spent the last six years in the Barclays Premier League with more than 150 top flight appearances under his belt, trained with the Royals again this morning, back on very familiar ground at Hogwood Park. He will take squad number 3.

Wenger plans move for Egyptian youngster Milo

A new name is being linked with a move to Arsenal this summer and this time it is Egyptian youngster Milo. The Sun has reported that Arsene Wenger is planning a move for the young defender who plays in the Egyptian Premier League.

Milo, whose real name is Islam Ramadan, has played for local club Haras El Hodood in their first team since the start of the 2010-11 season. The defender had been impressive last season and the club was at the top of the league when it was stopped abruptly in February. Milo is one of Egypt's top players and has been capped at the Under-20 level by the national side. Milo is expected to travel to London as a part of the Egyptian Olympics squad.

Barcelona planning to hijack Arsenal target Etienne Capoue

The two most beautiful football playing clubs in the world today, Barcelona and Arsenal, are set to battle it out for French midfielder Etienne Capoue in their bid to strengthen the center of the park. The Toulouse star is believed to be available for £9.5 million with his French club ready to cash in on their player.

TalkSPORT reports that Arsenal had identified the 23 year old as their much needed reinforcement in midfield after dropping interest in initial target Yann M'Vila. The reason for the switch is thought to be the latter's poor disciplinary record which saw him be a big part of the French national team bust up at the European Championships and also find himself behind bars three times in the past two years.

Lucas Moura opens possibility of Man United switch

Manchester United have been alerted about the possible availability of Brazilian starlet Lucas Moura, who had earlier spurned the approaches of Chelsea and Real Madrid stating that he wished to stay at Sao Paulo till the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, the Daily Mail reported that the playmaker is now open to a switch to Old Trafford even as Inter plan a swoop for the 19 year-old.

Moura started his career at Brazilian side Sao Paulo, joining the youth system in 2005. Since moving on to the first team in 2010, the player has become an integral part of the club setup, scoring 26 goals in over 100 appearances. The player has been capped 15 times by the national team and was keen on staying in Brazil till they launched their bid for another World Cup title in 2014.
