Michael Owen close to signing for a ‘new club'

Free agent Michael Owen is on the brink of joining a new club this summer, according to the The Sun. The striker had been released by Manchester United at the end of last season after a three-year spell.

The former England international is a youth product of Liverpool, for whom he played from 1996 to 2004. He then moved to Real Madrid for a year before returning to the Premier League with Newcastle. In 2009, the striker joined the Red Devils on a free transfer. The United number 7, however, failed to find a regular spot in the Red Devils' playing eleven and managed just 4 competitive appearances last season due to injuries and falling form.

Real Valladolid stopper Jaime confirms Spurs interest

Tottenham are believed to be planning a move for Real Valladolid goalkeeper Jaime Jimenez Merlo according to reports in the Metro. New boss Andre Villas-Boas has been desperately looking for a new keeper and Jaime joins the likes of Hugo Lloris and Julio Cesar on Spurs' summer shopping wishlist. Valladolid on their part though deny having received an official offer as yet.

The 31 year-old keeper, known simply as Jaime, has gained quite a reputation for himself after a superb performance last season as Real Valladolid gained promotion to La Liga. The experienced goalkeeper has played at over ten clubs and offers a wealth of experience. He will also be a very affordable prospect, having been valued in the region of £2 million.

Reading table offer for Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton

Premier League new boys Reading have just confirmed the signing of Watford's Adrian Mariappa and are now looking to further bolster their defence with a move for Tottenham right-back Kyle Naughton. The Royals have made an offer of about £4 million for the defender who is also being chased by Southampton and Aston Villa.

The 23 year-old started his career at the youth academy of Sheffield United in 1998. After a year with the first team, the Englishman moved to North London in July 2009. Since then, the full-back has made just one Premier League appearance for Spurs and has spent most of his time away from White Hart Lane on loan. He has played for Middlesbrough, Leicester City and last season he played for Norwich City making 32 appearances for the Canaries.

Rumours abound of £300,000 a week offer for Van Persie from Juventus

Arsenal star Robin van Persie is being linked with hordes of wealth in the Premier League as well as Serie A before he sits for formal talks with Arsene Wenger. The Daily Star has reported that the iconic Dutchman could snub a staggering £300,000-a-week offer from Juventus in favour of Premier League champions Manchester City.

The winner of last season's Premier League Golden Boot had voiced his concerns over Arsenal's ambition a couple of weeks back and declined a new offer from the Gunners. Now, the clubs in the chase have come forward with their financial plans for the 28 year-old.

Van Persie seeks conclusion to transfer saga before Arsenal's Asia tour

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is expected to hold formal talks with Arsene Wenger over his transfer situation before the squad sets out for a pre-season tour of Asia later this week, reported the Telegraph. The Gunners are going to face Man City in a friendly at Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium on July 27 and it is unclear whether the squad will feature the Dutchman or not.

Van Persie had openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the club earlier this month over Arsenal's failure to win any major trophy since 2005. The 28 year-old declined a £130,000-a-week offer from Arsenal and went on to question the club's ambition and direction. However, Arsenal are still trying to hang on to their prized asset amidst heavy interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Oscar arrives in London to have medical at Chelsea

Brazilian starlet Oscar recently flew to London to complete his £25 million move to Chelsea, reports the Daily Mail. The rising star of Brazilian football is set to secure a dream switch to the Champions League winners from Brazilian club Internacional and would complete the formalities after the Olympics.

The versatile player can be used in an attacking midfield role, as a second striker and even on either wings and is sure to give Roberto Di Matteo plenty of options to change formations and shuffle around his attack. Still only 20, the wonderkid has a bright future ahead of him and is expected to one of the main men in Brazil's 2014 World Cup campaign on home soil.

Barcelona rekindle interest in Agger after being priced out of Martinez move

Spanish giants Barcelona have moved back in for Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger after being priced out of a move for primary target Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao, reports the Daily Mail. Barcelona had declared an interest in the Danish captain in January also, but a move failed to materialise.

The Catalan club are in dire need of a central defender as they have only Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique as recognised centre-backs, with the former struggling with age and injuries. New boss Tito Vilanova sees this area of his team as the primary reason for a rather disappointing last season by the club's high standards.
