Hughes planning De Jong reunion at QPR

E-mail Print

QPR boss Mark Hughes has set his sights on Manchester City's "play-breaker" Nigel De Jong. De Jong appeared in 29 matches for the Citizens this season but hardly featured in the City line-up during the business end of it.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggest City manager Mancini, quite expectedly, is looking to add further reinforcements to bolster a squad which looks ready to challenge in Europe next season. This has alerted Hughes as he seeks a midfield player who could shield his defence. Hughes is supposedly being given the cash to splash by QPR owner Tony Fernandes after dramatically managing to keep QPR afloat in the Premier league on the last day.

Arsenal are looking at a major clear out to make way for many summer acquisitions after another trophy-less season. Arsene Wenger is looking to build a new squad in order to end their 6 year long trophy drought. Many top Arsenal players have left in the last 2-3 years for other big club in order to win trophies or for higher salaries and Robin Van Persie may well follow the footsteps of Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Kolo Toure this summer. Arsene Wenger has a battle on his hands to keep the 'PFA Player of the Year' at the Emirates with top clubs Manchester City and Juventus declaring their interest in the Dutch hitman.

Arsenal are reportedly looking to make Andrei Arshavin and Denilson’s loan moves to Zenit St. Petersburg and Sao Paulo (respectively) permanent while hoping to sell loan returnees Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela. Arsenal are also on the lookout  for a goalkeeper in the transfer window as the two backup goalkeepers Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski are also heading for the exit, with Arsene Wenger finally addressing his goalkeeping problems.

Spanish sensation Miguel Perez Cuesta aka Michu, has the story of any dream footballer. Starting his football career with local club Real Oviedo, Michu has meandered through Spanish football largely unnoticed. After two seasons with Oviedo in the fourth division in Spain, Michu moved up a level with his hometown club to the Segunda Division B.

After impressing for Oviedo, he was signed by Celta Vigo, who sent him down to their B team with whom the free scoring attacking midfielder registered his first ever double digit goal return. A call-up with the Celta Vigo big boys was always on the cards, and Michu spend three seasons with the club in the Segunda Division.

Manchester United yet to sign wonderkid Nick Powell according to Crewe boss

E-mail Print

The latest buzz in the transfer market seems to be of a young English talent, Nick Powell, scouted heavily by many Championship and Premier League clubs. The teenager is known to have enviable dribbling skills and is menacing in and around the 18-yard box. This gives Manchester United all the more reason to pursue this gifted bloomer who can be nurtured to great heights under the supervision of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Reports last week had indicated that Manchester United had signed the wonderkid for £4 million, but in an interview with the Lancashire Evening Post yesterday, Crewe manager Steve Davis, dismissed rumours that any such deal had been inked. In fact, the manager held steadfast that not only was there no offer on the table, the club weren't interested in selling their prize asset.

Manchester United have begun to set things in motion in order to place a formidable challenge to their noisy neighbours in the Premier League. A nail biting league season that ended in disappointment, and the fact that the Red Devils failed to compete for other honours, may have affected morale at the club and hence Sir Alex Ferguson is looking at some new acquisitions to enthuse both the players and fans.

First on the shopping list for the club is English full-back Leighton Baines, who has been linked with Manchester United on many occasions. Baines was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the year this term and has been one of the most consistent players on Merseyside, having played 99 consecutive matches for Everton.

Mohamed Diame heading for greener pastures

E-mail Print

Wigan's 24 year old defensive midfielder Mohamed Diame is planning on leaving the club when his contract expires in the summer. Malaga, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham are all interested in signing the strong and highly talented Senegalese player. This comes as no surprise as Diame is powerful central midfielder, who can keep the ball, knock anyone off it; play excellent passes and has a thunderous strike on him. He would be one of the bargain buys of the season as a free agent. However, Manchester United have pulled out of the race for Diame's signature because of his heart problem. Having taken risks on Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen, both having a knack of being injured, with no avail, Manchester United are unwilling to take that risk again.

Born in France, Diame was signed up by RC Lens in 2003 at the age of 16. He left the club though after four years due to health problems. After recovering completely, he signed for Spanish side CD Linares in 2007. The following year, he moved to Rayo Vallecano and helped them to a commendable mid table position. Many top clubs took notice of the young midfielder, but he ultimately moved to Premier League side Wigan Athletic in 2009. The deal involving the English club paying €3.8 million and defender Antonio Amaya to Rayo was temporarily put on hold after heart problems were discovered. It eventually did go through though and as a backup, Wigan used to keep a defibrillator close to the touchline whenever Diame was playing.
