ECB announce £96m investment in community cricket

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced today that they will invest £96m in community cricket in the next four years after a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with the ECB’s Recreational Assembly.

The MOU was agreed during a day of meetings at the Kia Oval which culminated in the ECB’s Annual Meeting at which Jane Stichbury and Baroness Flint were re-elected as independent members to the ECB Board and the election of Richard Thompson (Surrey) and Andy Nash (Somerset) confirmed.


LED Stumps to light up Big Bash

The stumps will literally light up tonight at the KFC T20 Big Bash League with a world-first innovation of LED stumps and bails that ignite when dislodged. The innovation has been designed to enhance the in-match experience for fans at the games and during broadcast on FOX SPORTS, adding to the fun and excitement that is BBL.

The Zing Wicket System, created by South Australian manufacturer Zing International, has a sensor in the bails that can determine within 1/1000 of a second when the wicket is broken. Once the wicket is broken the bails instantaneously flash bright red LED lights and then send a radio signal to the stumps which also ignite. They are powered by low voltage batteries in each of the bails and also in the stumps.


ITF launches Tennis Xpress programme for adults

The ITF today announced the launch of Tennis Xpress, a new supporting programme aimed at adults as part of its global participation campaign Tennis Play and Stay.

Tennis Play and Stay is the ITF's global initiative launched in 2007 aimed at increasing tennis participation worldwide. Tennis Play and Stay centres around the slogan of 'Serve, Rally and Score' and seeks to promote tennis as an easy, fun and healthy sport. Fundamental to the campaign is the use of slower balls by coaches working with starter players, ensuring that their first experience of tennis is a positive one by serving, rallying and scoring from the first lesson.


Apex-Brasil to sponsor 2014 FIFA World Cup

FIFA announce today the latest addition to the group of sponsors, with Brazilian Trade and Investment agency, Apex-Brasil, agreeing a deal to become the fifth National Supporter of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

The agreement provides Apex-Brasil with the opportunity to showcase Brazilian industry in general as well as promoting Brazil as an innovative and sustainable country. The two events will facilitate Apex-Brasil's mission to bring together Brazilian businesses and potential foreign investors, with a view to strengthening business ties and securing investment.

Brazilian Minister of Sport, Aldo Rebelo, highlights the relevance of the partnership established between Apex-Brasil and FIFA. "In addition to being one of the world´s biggest sporting events, the FIFA World Cup also features a major opportunity for its host country. Thanks to Apex-Brasil´s valuable initiative, Brazilian products and services, cutting-edge technology, gastronomy and fashion will be showcased at an exceptional promotion station which is to be set up during the event. And the country shall take advantage of this unique opportunity, which adds to its economy and its image perception worldwide", said Aldo Rebelo.


Brand Dhoni grows bigger with launch of Specialized Gyms

The personal fitness industry in India got a massive facelift today with the formal launch of 'SportsFit' a chain of Gym and Fitness Centers owned and operated by Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni in partnership with Sajid Shamim and Pankaj Guliani.
