The star-studded field at the inaugural Chengdu Open did not disappoint on the first day of play at the ATP Champions Tour event. Pitting legend against legend, the high quality of match play demonstrated why the eight players hold 25 Grand Slam singles championships.

Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Spaniard Sergi Bruguera opened round robin play in spectacular fashion, with Kafelnikov coming out on top 7-6(5), 6-2.

Kafelnikov, a former ATP World Tour World No. 1 who won two singles Grand Slams, four doubles Grand Slams and an Olympic Gold medal while playing on the ATP World Tour, debuted on the ATP Champions Tour in 2008 in less than peak form. Unable to keep up with his extremely fit compet

Fellow Swede Thomas Enqvist, the current No.1 on the ATP Champions Tour confessed, "Every time I see an old match between McEnroe and Borg I cannot stop watching. It's so much fun."

Meanwhile, McEnroe is focused on proving to Chengdu fans that, "The old guys still have something left in them. This is our first Champions tour event in China so we're very excited about playing in this great stadium. "

Borg added, "It's always a big thrill to be back, I've been here quite a few times but never in Chengdu. Looking forward to this week. My mission is to bring a giant panda back t

Serena Williams ended an 8-year wait to claim her second year-end WTA Tour title beating elder sister Venus 6-2, 7-6 (4) in a largely disappointing Sony Ericsson Championships final at Doha, Qatar.

The younger Williams, who will be restored to the top of the world rankings on Monday, came into the match with a 12-10 record against her elder sister, having beaten her thrice this year, including earlier in the week.

With both players sporting heavy bandages on their legs - Venus a knee brace and Serena a bandaged thigh - the start of the match hardly looked pretty. The usually athletic and highly motivated sisters looked sluggish in the early exchanges, with Serena struggling to change direc

It's Sister Act 23 as Venus and Serena Williams booked a place in the final of the year end Sony Ericsson Championships against one another with contrasting win in the semi-finals. Serena needed just 45 minutes to quell the challenge of 19-year old Dane Caroline Wozniacki, who ran out of gas at the end of a tiring week, while defending champion Venus made the final the hard way, taking out former world no.1 Jelena Jankovic in over two and a half hours in a repeat of last year's semi-final.

The Venus - Jankovic contest was the first of the two semi-finals, with Jelena coming into the match with a narrow 5-4 lead in their head-to-head duels. Jankovic's form however had been anything but exemplary

We're down to a rather surprising final four at the Sony Ericsson Championships at Doha. New world no.1 Serena Williams will take on Danish teenager Caroline Wozniacki and elder sister Venus squares off against Jelena Jankovic in the semi-finals of the year-end spectacle, with the Williams sisters looking strong favourites to compete in the championship match on Sunday.

While Serena and Venus' presence on the weekend of a major tournament should come as no surprise to tennis fans, the manner in which they progressed from the Maroon Group has been in sharp contrast. Serena had the day-off on Friday afternoon after winning three consecutive matches Tuesday through Thursday. Venus by contrast made th

Serena Williams celebrated being crowned world no.1 again with an emphatic straight sets win over Elena Dementieva, doing her sister's chances of making the final 4 no harm at all. Venus then stepped on court and did herself a huge favour by scraping past Svetlana Kuznetsova in her final round robin match. Before the Williams tennis saga added a new chapter to its book, 19-year old Dane Caroline Wozniacki put her growing legions of fans through another emotional roller coaster, throwing away a huge lead and then battling back to edge Vera Zvonareva in the only White Group match of the day.
