Blitzboks to face Scotland in Cup quarters of NZ Sevens

The Springbok Sevens team on Saturday topped pool B of the HSBC NZ Sevens in Hamilton after beating Papua New Guinea (36-5), Russia (38-0) and England (28-7) in the FMG Stadium and will face Scotland in the Cup quarterfinals on Sunday.

The defending HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series champions started the fourth tournament of the 2017/18 series with a workmanlike win over PNG, but started to hit their straps in the second half of their clash against Russia. In their final pool match, against England, the Blitzboks scored four unanswered tries on route to a convincing win.

Springbok Women’s Sevens in Cup contention at Super7sBrisbane tournament

The Springbok Women’s Sevens team on Saturday secured a Cup quarterfinal berth in the Super7sBrisbane tournament being played at the Sci-Fleet Stadium in Toowong, Brisbane.

South Africa won their matches against Papua New Guinea (22-0) and Sweden (12-5) to secure a Cup play-off spot despite a subsequent 31-0 defeat against England in their final pool match.

Brown happy to lead Blitzboks in Hamilton

Kyle Brown would have preferred regular captain Philip Snyman to be with them in New Zealand, but under the circumstances, the Springbok Sevens veteran is more than willing and happy to take over the leadership responsibilities in Hamilton this weekend.

Brown was the regular captain of the side for a number of seasons, but stood down from the captaincy at the end of the 2015/16 series, when Snyman took over. Snyman, however, returned to South Africa due to injury, and Brown was again handed the captaincy by Springbok Sevens coach, Neil Powell.

Australian Men break title drought at the Sydney7s to cap memorable day

The Australian Men's Sevens side have broken their HSBC Sevens World Series tournament drought after a 29-nil demolition of reigning Series champions South Africa.

Australia hadn't won a World Series tournament since Tokyo in 2012 but waltzed their way to the 2018 Sydney7s crown following day three victories over New Zealand, Argentina and South Africa.

Springbok Sevens takes World Series lead in Sydney

The Springbok Sevens team on Sunday moved back to the top of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series standings despite a 29-0 defeat to Australia in the final of the HSBC Sydney Sevens.

The Blitzboks, who started the tournament second on the log, moved past New Zealand after three tournaments in the series being played, with the next in the ten-stop tour next weekend in Hamilton, New Zealand.
