The first sports weekend of the year is definitely not the most glamorous you can expect in 2010, but it does have a little bit for everyone. In view of the obvious holiday on Friday the 1st of Jan, our weekend guide is a bonanza three-day offering.

Football fans have the oldest tournament in the world to turn to on their television screens as the FA Cup 3rd Round kicks-off this weekend. Our pick of the action is the London derby featuring West Ham United and Arsenal. Other matches live on the tube this weekend

stvg1.jpgAnother exciting weekend of sports action in prospect as Football and Cricket dominate the television screens across India.

Cricket fans have three exciting series to choose from, with India hosting Sri Lanka in the fifth and final ODI in Delhi, Australia welcoming Pakistan in a test series down under and South Africa entertaining England in the second test at Durban. The first of those games is live on Neo Cricket, the second on Star Cricket and the third on Ten Sports. Fans are urged to take note that the India - Sri Lanka match is a day game and will start at 9am (IST).

A bumper weekend in prospect for sports fans as hockey makes a long awaited return to TV screens across Asia with the mother (father, brother, etc.) of all matches with India taking on Pakistan in the BDO Champions Challenge Semi-final. Sadly that match will not be shown live, but knowing hockey-starved fans across the subcontinent, that won't really bother them much. Great sporting action awaits fans this weekend with mouth watering clashes taking place in all major sports. Cricket, tennis and football are all part of the main course, while there is some good NBA, Golf and American Football action on the menu for dessert.

We start as usual with the Barclays Premier League where top of the pile Chelsea travel to Eastlands to take on big spending Manchester City in what should be an entertaining 90 minutes of football.
