The South African Under 20 Women's National Team (Basetsana) has been defeated by two goals to nil (2-0) by Ghana in the first leg second round of the FIFA Under 20 World Cup qualifiers. The match was played on Saturday, 31 March at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton.
Johan Botha heading to South Australia
Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Friday that it has decided to release Johan Botha from his national contract after the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.
"Johan has been an excellent servant of South African cricket for a lengthy period of time and we will never forget the manner in which he captained the Proteas to success in the absence of Graeme Smith in the away ODI series in Australia in 2009," commented CSA Acting CEO Jacques Faul.
Stuart Broad ruled out of second Test against Sri Lanka
England pace bowler Stuart Broad has been ruled of the final Test against Sri Lanka after a scan today confirmed a right calf strain. Broad will return to the UK immediately for further assessment before beginning a rehabilitation programme which will determine his availability for all cricket including the Indian Premier League.
England have opted to not call an additional player into the squad, and it is widely expected that either fast bowler Steven Finn or allrounder Tim Bresnan will replace Broad in the squad for the second test.
Squash: Egyptian youngster upsets Grinham
Egyptian teenager Nour El Sherbini caused her second major upset in two days when she downed sixth seeded Australian Rachael Grinham in four games in the quarter-finals of the KL Open squash tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Woodforde and Pratt to lead Junior Davis and Fed Cup teams
Tennis stars Mark Woodforde OAM and Nicole Pratt will captain the Australian Junior Davis and Fed Cup teams at next month's Asia Oceania qualifying tie, to be held at the Bendigo Tennis Association in Bendigo, Victoria from 24-29 April.
Squash: Rachael rescues Australian hopes in KL Open
Queensland's Rachael Grinham rescued Australia's hopes at the KL Open in Kuala Lumpur when she came from two games down to beat Egyptian qualifier Heba El Torky in the first round on Wednesday. Grinham outlasted El Torky 8-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-5, 12-10 in almost an hour and a half to become the only Australian winner on the tournament's opening day.
