Frustration in Paul Ricard as Rossi hit from behind on opening lap of both races

The Formula Renault 3.5 Series moved to Paul Ricard in France this weekend for the penultimate weekend of the 2012 championship. Alexander Rossi was in action with the Arden Caterham team, returning to the circuit on which he scored a race win in the series last year. This year proved difficult for the 21-year-old as he was hit on the opening lap of both races and suffered a problem in the pits in race two, which prevented his chances of a good race finish after two strong qualifying results.

Drivers headed out on Friday morning for the first of the weekend's running in first practice. Alexander was immediately on the pace, setting the third fastest time. In a strong session during which he completed 15 laps of testing, he set his fastest lap in the dying moments to finish third fastest. In the afternoon's second practice, Alexander flew to the top of the timesheets ten minutes into the session. He improved on his time several times throughout and hit the top spot again ten minutes from the end. He finished the session second quickest behind Kevin Magnussen.

Pedrosa makes up ground with crushing Aragon victory

Dani Pedrosa rode to a dominant win to claw back some of Jorge Lorenzo's championship advantage at the Grand Prix of Aragon this afternoon. The Spaniard came home over 6 seconds ahead of his rival in an authoritative outing at the Motorland Aragon track close to Alcaniz.

In a weekend where practice witnessed a washout quite like the last race at Misano, qualifying on Saturday provided the first crucial dry running for the field. Yamaha's Lorenzo came out on top, edging out Pedrosa by under a tenth of a second after the Repsol Honda rider recovered from a crash early in the session. Tech 3 Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow was a close third, followed by American Ben Spies on the other Yamaha. Stefan Bradl was impressive on the LCR Honda to take P5, while Andrea Dovizioso completed the second row on the grid. Ever-improving stand-in Jonathan Rea took seventh for Honda, ahead of the Ducatis of Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden. Hector Barbera on the satellite Pramac Ducati rounded off the top ten.

Porsche customer teams victorious in International GT Open

In the Royal Park of Monza, the international Porsche customer teams have again scored victories. At race 13 of the International GT Open on Saturday, Porsche works driver Patrick Pilet and his French compatriot Raymond Narac (IMSA Performance Matmut) claimed their first win of the season in the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR under extremely challenging track conditions. Factory pilot Marco Holzer (Germany) and his British teammate Nick Tandy clinched position three in the 911 GT3 RSR fielded by Manthey-Racing – and temporarily moved to the top of the points' table. And the Autorlando Sport squad also celebrated a victory in the GTS class with the 911 GT3 R on Saturday at their home race. At race 14 on Sunday, Holzer/Tandy scored fifth ahead of Pilet/Narac in sixth. In the GTS class, Autorlando again achieved a podium result.

Especially the 70-minute race on Saturday on the 5.793 kilometre high speed circuit of Monza turned into a real thriller – not least due to the fact that the race started on a wet track, the ideal line then almost dried, only to have rain set in just before the finish. Raymond Narac had taken off from fifth on the grid and handed the wheel of the IMSA-Performance 911, now fitted with slicks, to Patrick Pilot running eighth after an immaculate stint.

Six Hours of Bahrain: Second win of the season for Porsche in the GTE Am class

At the debut of the World Endurance Championship in Bahrain, the Felbermayr-Proton Porsche squad celebrated its second GTE Am class victory of the season. With their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Christian Ried (Germany) and his Italian teammates Gianluca Roda and Paolo Ruberti won the six hour race on the Bahrain International Circuit against strong opposition from Ferrari and Chevrolet. After a tough battle in the GTE Pro class, Porsche works drivers Marc Lieb (Germany) and Richard Lietz (Austria) pocketed third place, repeating their recent Sao Paulo result.

"It was a difficult race for us. We had to conserve the tyres from the first to the last lap and this made us somewhat slower than the front-runners," said Richard Lietz after the race which started at 4 p.m. in 40 degree Celsius temperatures and ran mainly in the dark.

Toyota Racing left disappointed in Six Hours of Bahrain

Toyota Racing's challenge in the Six Hours of Bahrain ended with an accident after an earlier technical issue had already denied the team a chance of victory in the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Following the win two weeks ago in Sao Paulo, the #7 TS030 HYBRID of Alex Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre led after two hours and looked in a very strong position. However, the lights went out on that victory bid soon after.

WEC regulations require the illuminated number on the side of a car to function throughout the race. The #7 car's panel failed on both sides, forcing the team to exchange the parts which cost seven minutes.
