Golf adopts Formula One Technology

E-mail Print
Williams F1 announced today that is has entered into a unique license agreement with Williams Sports, a US golf equipment company. Williams Sports has a very successful background in the golf business, building one of the most successful golf club companies in the industry during the mid to late 2000's, while producing golf equipment that was used to win 44 times on PGA Tours worldwide. Combining Williams F1's engineering capability with the established golf club design and production experience of the team at Williams Sports, will create a partnership that will advance golf club designs to a new level in 2010 and beyond.

The purpose of the partnership is to inject Williams F1's Formula One technology into the design and manufacture of Williams Sports' golfing equipment. The initial areas of technical partnership are in the
aerodynamic profiling of golf club shafts, ferrules and heads, and the application of composites and alloys materials science in club design. With current limitations on modern golf club design, aerodynamics and materials are now the most important aspect of research and development for advance golf products. In addition, the rapid ‘concept to delivery' lead times typical of Formula One will allow these progressions to reach the golf market sooner than via traditional R&D routes.

Dubai Sports City (DSC) is using "flexible, competitive and innovative" ticket pricing to reach out to cricket fans throughout the region for this month's WorldCall T-20 Challenge between Pakistan and England, presented by Bank Alfalah. Grandstand tickets for the opening match of the two-game series at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday 19 February have been frozen at the same price as last November's Pakistan - New Zealand series, and start at just AED75. And for the second match, on Saturday 20 February, the same ticket has been reduced to AED50. Meanwhile, top-priced Platinum Grandstand tickets have been slashed from their previous mark of AED950 down to AED500 for Friday's action and AED400 for the match on Saturday.

Explaining the pricing policy, DSC General Manager - Sports Business Maqbul Dudhia said: "When it comes to the pricing of the tickets for the WorldCall T-20 Challenge presented by Bank Alfalah, our strategy has been simple - to reach as many people as possible. To do that we have sought to be flexible, competitive and innovative and we believe that with these prices we have achieved that aim. Both Pakistan and England have large and passionate followings within the region and we believe that these prices will help ensure a high number of fans turn out to create a fantastic and enjoyable atmosphere for the matches.

WorldCall confirmed as title sponsor for Pakistan - England Twenty20 Internationals

Telecommunications company WorldCall is the title sponsor for the Pakistan - England Twenty20 International (T20I) matches at Dubai Sports City on 19 and 20 February. Bank Alfalah has also been confirmed as the presenting sponsor for the series, repeating its role from the One-Day International and T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in November 2009.

These agreements mean the series at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium will be known as the WorldCall T-20 Challenge presented by Bank Alfalah. Pakistan is the current world champion in the shortest international form of the game after securing the ICC World Twenty20 title in England last June. This month's matches will be the two teams' final outings in the Twenty20 format before the next ICC World Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean in April and May so they assume vital importance in terms of preparation for that global event.

Tickets prices for the matches start at AED75 (Friday 19 February) and AED50 (Saturday 20 February) and go up to AED500 (Friday) and AED400 (Saturday). Both matches start at 1800 local time.
