The region's aspiring and talented Asian Development Tour (ADT) stars will challenge for top honours at the PGM A'Famosa Classic next week. The PGM A'Famosa Classic will be the third ADT event to be staged this season and it promises to unearth future champions at the RM180,000 (approximately US$60,000) event from May 10 to 13.

An in-form Luke Bleumink of Australia, winner of the PGM Johor Masters last month and currently leading the ADT Order of Merit, will headline the field as he seeks back-to-back victories at the A'Famosa Golf Resort in Malacca, located about a two-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur.

louis_oosthuizen_winsLouis Oosthuzien's heroic performance in winning the Maybank Malaysian Open, just a week after suffering a heart-breaking play-off defeat at the Masters Tournament, has earned the South African The Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Month Award for April. Oosthuizen battled jetlag, high humidity and a world-class field at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, in the Malaysian capital, to seal his fifth European Tour title and swiftly banish the disappointment of missing out on his second Major Championship.

The 2010 Open Champion admitted his agonising play-off defeat to American Bubba Watson at Augusta National had caused him sleepless nights, but he showed few signs of fatigue in compiling four sub-70 rounds to cruise to a three-shot victory over runner-up Stephen Gallacher of Scotland.

New Zealand veteran Michael Long may be getting on in years, but at 43 he is proving he can still keep up with the youngsters on OneAsia. Long will tee it up against players half his age in next week's GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship at Namseoul Golf & Country Club in the Korean capital, hoping that a settled approach to the game will reap its own reward.

"At my age it is simply a goal to just make the cut in events," Long said. "Anything beyond that is a bonus."

Yet the bonuses have come. While the Kiwi missed the cut at the Volvo China Open in Tianjin last month, he rolled back the years in the season-opening Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open in March to grab a share of third place with a final round seven-under par 65, the best 18-holes of the tournament. His finest result on OneAsia remains a joint second at the Nanshan China Classic last year after a four-man play-off won by Korean youngster Kim Bi-o.

sam_torrance1Former Ryder Cup Captain Sam Torrance has added his name to what is becoming the strongest field in the history of the Benahavis Senior Masters by confirming his attendance at La Quinta Golf and Country Club, in southern Spain, from June 1-3. Torrance joins a host of fellow former Ryder Cup players including Gordon Brand Jnr, Antonio Garrido, Manuel Piñero and Mark James, along with reigning John Jacobs Trophy Champion Peter Fowler, the 2010 winner Boonchu Ruangkit, and defending champion Carl Mason as they attempt to collect the lion's share of the increased prize fund of €200,000.

The Benahavis Senior Masters has moved to a new date on the Senior Tour schedule this year, from Mid-October to early June, and the move has proven popular with the players as many of the Senior Tour stars attempt to steal a march in the Order of Merit at the early stages of the season.
