The enigma that is Arsenal FC showcased football of the highest quality for arguably the first real time this season to cruise to a comfortable 5-2 win over bottom of the table Reading on Monday night. The Arsenal movement was quick, passing incisive, and shoot on sight orders had clearly been issued as the Gunners bombarded Adam Federici in the Reading goal with 25 shots, 17 of which were on target. A hat-trick from Santi Cazorla will no doubt steal some of the headlines, while a goal each for Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott were richly deserved. The German had an excellent game, also contributing heavily to a number of the other goals that Arsenal scored.
Reading were poor on the night, not closing down the Arsenal midfielders, and certainly not being physical enough in their approach, allowing Arsenal time and space on the ball, and were perhaps flattered a bit by the scoreline as they grabbed two goals through Adam Le Fondre and Jimmy Kebe largely from defensive errors.
