Montpellier's incredible success in the Ligue 1 this season could lead to Europe's biggest clubs plucking their best talents and the Metro reports that Liverpool have now entered the race for their attacking midfielder Younes Belhanda. The Moroccan has been followed closely by the likes of Arsenal and PSG and with Kenny Dalglish now making a personal trip to France to cast an eye on the 22 year old, Liverpool are firmly in the fray.

Montpellier currently lead the Ligue 1 table by five points and with only four games left they are in a great position to clinch their first ever Ligue 1 title. At the heart of that incredible run has been the duo of Olivier Giroud and Belhanda. While Giroud is valued at an insane £50m, Belhanda will be available at around £15m. With 11 goals in the league this season, the midfielder has already been compared to a certain Robert Pires.

Fresh from defeating their arch-rivals on the pitch, Manchester City could beat Man United to the punch off the field too, where the Daily Telegraph claims that City have moved ahead of United in the race for Eden Hazard. The Lille attacker has announced his intentions to move to the Premier League and the two Manchester giants have taken turns in stamping their name across the player. Both Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini have been to Lille to watch the 21 year old star, with both managers claiming to be very impressed by his qualities.

The Belgian revealed his plans recently, "My objective is to go to the Premier League, because I have had my time in France. Maybe in the future I will return to France, but for now I am concentrating on finishing the season with Lille to the best of my ability and then going to England."

Kompany rises high as Man City edge United in monumental Manchester derby

roberto_mancini1Manchester City have painted the town blue after they claimed a truly memorable 1-0 victory against their arch-rivals Manchester United to take a giant step towards clinching the Premier League title. Vincent Kompany was the hero in what was billed the ‘Most important Manchester derby ever’ as the centre-back scored the solitary goal of the game in first half added time with an unstoppable header from a corner. Man United lacked their usual attacking verve as they rarely opened up City’s defence. The game as a whole was a very cagey affair as the two sides cancelled out each other for long periods. City now lead the table purely on goal difference and with only two games left in the season, the ‘noisy neighbours’ could finally gate crash the party.

Roberto Mancini made no changes to the side that beat Wolves last time around as Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero continued in attack. David Silva and Samir Nasri came in from the wide areas while Yaya Toure and Gareth Barry controlled the centre of midfield. Pablo Zabaleta continued at right-back, with Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Gael Clichy completing the backline.

lukas_podolskiArsenal's desperate need for more firepower in front of goal appears to have finally found a German solution as FC Cologne striker Lukas Podolski ended months of speculation linking him to a move to the Emirates by declaring that a transfer has been agreed between the two clubs.

While talismanic striker and current club skipper Robin van Persie keeps Arsenal fans on tenterhooks regarding his future at the club, Manager Arsene Wenger appears to have learnt from the debacle caused by the departure of key players Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri this season, by moving early to capture the signature of Podolski well before the European championships.

Peter Cech – 6

Confident handling from the Czech international on the rare occasions he was called for. Made one excellent save from a Mackie strike in the second half. Would be unhappy with his defence's inability to help him keep a clean sheet.
