User Rating: / 1

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid took a huge stride towards qualifying for their second Champions League final in two years as they defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of their semi-final at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Although the second leg still has to be played in Atletico's Vicente Calderon Stadium next week, it is hard to imagine them coming back from this defeat, much less after seeing how they only created one significant chance in 90 difficult minutes during Tuesday night's match.

Europa League Preview: Celta Vigo vs Manchester United

Celta Vigo face one of the biggest nights in their history when they entertain Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League football semifinal on Thursday.

The Spanish side have been preparing for the game since defeating Genk in the quarter-finals with coach Eduardo Berizzo carrying out a series of squad rotations to ensure his strongest starting XI is available for this encounter.

Simeone refuses to accept Champions League tie is done and dusted

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone refused to accept defeat following the 0-3 Champions League semi-final first leg loss away to Real Madrid which left his side's chances of reaching a second successive final in tatters. Portugese forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick on Tuesday to give Real Madrid a foot in the final and to leave Atletico with a seemingly impossible task as they look to overturn the deficit in front of their fans next week.

However, despite the size of the task and the fact his side failed to muster a shot on target on Tuesday night, Simeone was in a bullish mood.

Roma legend Francesco Totti decides to hang up his boots

AS Roma's long-serving captain Francesco Totti will quit football at the end of the season, the capital club's sporting director Monchi announced on Wednesday. The 40-year-old iconic playmaker, who joined Roma's academy in 1989 and has remained with the capital outfit, is out of contract in the summer.

Monchi, who was appointed by Roma last week, clarified that Totti will end his 28-year playing career but he will be given a post of director.

La Liga: Malaga stun Sevilla 4-2

Malaga defeated regional rivals Sevilla 4-2 as the visitors squandered a chance to pull level on points with Atletico Madrid for third place in La Liga.

There was nothing in the opening 20 minutes at La Rosaleda Stadium on Monday to indicate that the match would turn into a scoring duel. The first chance for either team came just before the half-hour mark, when Franco Vazquez's shot from 12 yards out deflected off Malaga defender Luis Hernandez and past goalkeeper Carlos Kameni to put Sevilla ahead 1-0.
