Portugal grab draw against Austria in U-19 European Championships

The Portugal football team held Austria to a 1-1 draw, thanks to Pedro Empis' second-half equaliser in the UEFA Under-19 European Championship in Grossapach, Germany.

After Italy stunned hosts Germany 1-0 at the curtain raiser earlier on Monday, Portugal and Austria shared the spoils in the second game of Group A as Empis cancelled out Austria's first-half opener through Arnel Jakupovic.

Griezmann: "I'm very disappointed for my team-mates"

France football's poster boy Antoine Griezmann, who clinched the Golden Boot award at the just-concluded European Championship, on Monday said his team experienced both extraordinary moments as well as the saddest moments in the tournament.

Griezmann may have drawn a blank in the 1-0 final loss to Portugal on Sunday but he did win the Euro 2016 Golden Boot ahead of Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo and compatriot Olivier Giroud.

Fernando Santos: "He is now a beautiful swan"

Portugal coach Fernando Santos said ‘ugly duckling’ Eder has turned into a beautiful swan after his unlikely winner helped them clinch the Euro football championship final against France.

Santos’ team was dealt a severe blow as their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo had to limp off the field just 24 minutes into the game with a knee injury. But they held on till the 90 minutes, surviving an Andre-Pierre Gignac strike which hit the post.

Didier Deschamps: "We threw away a great chance to be European champions"

Disappointed after losing to Portugal in the European Championship final clash, France's football team head coach Didier Deschamps said his boys weren't cool-headed and missed lot of opportunities which where there to score.

Portugal, even without their leader Cristiano Ronaldo, upset hosts France 1-0 in extra-time as substitute striker Eder scored the only goal of a breathtaking final at the Stade de France to clinch their first major football title.

Renato Sanches named Euro 2016's Young Player of the Tournament

Euro football championship winner Renato Sanches of Portugal was chosen above French winger Kingsley Coman and team-mate Raphael Guerreiro for the SOCAR Young Player of the Tournament award.

The accolade caps a sensational breakthrough season for the 18-year-old, whose performances as a substitute in three of Fernando Santos' side's first four matches in France earned him his maiden international start for the quarter-final against Poland.
