Davis Cup: India complete 4-1 win over Uzbekistan

Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prajnesh Gunneswaran produced contrasting results in their respective reverse singles matches as India completed a 4-1 win over Uzbekistan in their Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group I second round tie in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Sanjar Fayziev in straight sets in the first reverse singles to hand India a 4-0 lead in the tie. Ramanathan won 6-3, 6-2 against his 22-year-old Uzbek opponent in a match which lasted for around an hour.


Brazil advance to Davis Cup World Group play-offs

Brazil have earned a place in the Davis Cup World Group play-offs after by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead over Ecuador in their Americas Zone second round clash.

Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares secured victory in the tie - being played 2,500m above sea level in the Ecuadorian Andes - by defeating Gonzalo Escobar and Roberto Quiroz 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in their doubles rubber on Saturday.


Davis Cup: Serbia ease past Spain 3-0

Serbia have earned an unassailable 3-0 lead over Spain in the Davis Cup quarter-finals at Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade.

On the second day of the quarter-final tie on Saturday, Serbia's 40-year-old Nenad Zimonjic teamed up with Viktor Troicki to beat Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta and Marc Lopez 4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, and bring the third winning point and victory for Serbia.


Kyrgios leads Australia to Davis Cup triumph

Nick Kyrgios produced another stellar performance to lead Australia to a 3-2 victory over the USA in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group quarterfinal in Brisbane. Kyrgios overpowered Sam Querrey, who replaced American No.1 Jack Sock, in today’s fourth rubber  to secure Australia’s place in the semifinals for the second time in three years.

Cheered on by a strong crowd of 5,823 at Queensland Tennis Centre, Kyrgios came back from an early break to take the first set 7-6(4), before winning the next two 6-3 6-4 to set up a semifinal clash in September with either Italy or Belgium.


Davis Cup: India seal 3-0 win over Uzbekistan

Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji defeated Farrukh Dustov and Sanjar Fayziev in straight sets in the doubles match to hand India an unassailable 3-0 lead in their Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group I tie against Uzbekistan in Bengaluru on Saturday. The Indians scripted an easy 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 win in around 80 minutes. The Indians have now advanced to the World Group Play-off stage.

Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prajnesh Gunneswaran had won their respective singles matches to hand India a 2-0 lead on the opening day of the tie on Friday. Ramkumar had defeated Temur Ismailov 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the opening match of the tie before Prajnesh enjoyed an excellent Davis Cup debut with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Fayziev.
