stanley_cup_2009_winners.jpgSixteen teams qualify for the NHL Playoffs, eight from the Eastern and eight from the Western conference. The three division winners in each conference earn the conference's top three playoff seeds. All rounds of the NHL Playoffs are best of 7 games.

As expected, the defending Stanley Cup champs Pittsburgh sent Ottawa packing in 6 games but had to work hard for their wins. Two of the 6 games went to overtime with one requiring 3 extra periods. Captain Crosby racked up 14 points to lead his team to the next round where they face the Canadiens who knocked off the President Trophy winners, Washington Capitals after being 3-1 down in the series. The Habs rode hot goalie Jarosalav Halak who allowed just 3 goals in the final three games ending the 1st round with 2nd best .939 save percentage.

February is an awesome month for wrestling fans in India with not just tons and tons of daily body-slamming action, but also three payper views to watch.

My favourite stop on the wrestling calendar is undoubtedly the 30-man over the top rope battle royal known over the last 22 editions of its existence as the Royal Rumble! This year's Rumble promises to be one of the most exciting ever with John Cena, The Big Show, CM Punk, Kane, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Legacy, Batista, Mark Henry, The Great Khali and a surprise guest at No.30!

In addition to the Royal Rumble Match itself, the pay per view which will be telecast twice on Ten Sports on Sunday 7th Feb with a repeat showing the following Wednesday, will also have five title matches preceding the main event.

148 shows of wrestling mayhem shared between WWE and TNA as the Superstars of the ring start the New Year with a host of shows flooding Ten Sports and Star Sports in India.

Sadly the WWE stable does not have any pay per view in January that will be telecast in the Indian subcontinent, with their only offering this month, the incredible 'Royal Rumble' only hitting our TV screens in February. TNA, however, does bring Genesis - the card for which is as yet far from finalized.

Two matches announced so far for the Royal Rumble, in addition to the over the top 30-man battle royal, are a couple of title matches for the ECW Championship and the World Heavyweight Title.

ECW Champion Christian will take on

The NBA makes a long awaited return to our television screens this month with a healthy Kevin Garnett and his  Boston Celtics opening the Regular Season with a trip to Cleveland to face the Cavs. Shaq and LeBron James teaming up at home to kick-off the season! It really doesn't get bigger than that.

Joining them on the opening day are the NBA champions the L.A. Lakers, who open their season at home against cross town rivals the L.A. Clippers. A tough debut for no.1 draft pick Blake Griffin as he takes on the might of the Lakers, boosted by new signing Ron Artest. Both games on Tuesday the 27th of October are live on TNT.

There are three games to chose from on Wednesday

Tour de France Schedule

tour_de_france.jpgThe Tour de France, world cycling's greatest event, premieres on Indian television from the 4th of July. The 23 day dramatic race will for the first time have an increased international route and weave through Monaco, Switzerland, Italy, Andorra and Spain.

The mother of all races will kick start with a 15K opening-day time trial among the megayachts of Monaco in South of France. And culminate in Paris on the 26th of July.

In 2008, it was drama galore. After locking in the eight-day race from the French capital to the Mediterranean coast, Team Astana's Alberto Contador cracked on the penultimate stage and lost the leader's jersey to Luis León Sánchez of Caisse d'Epargne. On the final day, Contador, attacked with th
