23-year-old Spaniard Garbine Muguruza overcame the challenge of 37 year old American fan favourite Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 in a lopsided final to claim her first ever Wimbledon title.

Muguruza, a runner-up to Serena Williams at Wimbledon a couple of years ago, showed that she had learnt plenty from her previous big day outing at SW19 to win the big points towards the business end of the first set before running away with the second as Venus faded badly.

Former world no.1 Caroline Wozniacki and British rising star Johanna Konta will battle it out for the Miami Open title after registering contrasting wins in their respective semi-final encounters on Thursday.

Wozniacki was the first to advance, reaching her first ever Miami Open final with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Czech Karolina Pliskova. The match seemed to be going Pliskova's way after she saved three set points in the 10th game and went on to take the first set, but the contest then took a surprising turn.

British tennis star Sir Andy Murray and America's Serena Williams stayed at the top of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world rankings and Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released on Monday.

The 29-year-old Scot led the rankings for the first time in his career on November 7 and has kept the lead since with 11,540 points. Serbia's Novak Djokovic is in second place with 9,735 points, followed by Swiss Stan Wawrinka. Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga jumped four places to occupy seventh position in the rankings courtesy of his title triumph in Marseille on Sunday. Swiss legend Roger Federer as a result fell a place to 10th with 3,260 points.

Williams announced today that Paul Di Resta will remain as its official Reserve Driver for the 2017 FIA Formula One World Championship season.

Paul made his Formula One debut in 2009 as a test driver with the Force India Formula One Team, after winning the European Formula 3 Championship in 2006. Paul went on to secure the DTM title in 2010 before making his Formula One debut in 2011 with Force India where he spent three seasons with the team, scoring a total of 121 points.

United States legend Serena Williams replaced German Angelique Kerber at the top of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings released on Monday, with 7,780 points.

Serena won her seventh Australian Open singles title on Saturday after defeating her sister Venus 6-4, 6-4 in the final.

Legendary American Serena Williams made history today when she defeated her elder sister Venus in the Australian Open final to become the first person in the Open Era to capture 23 Grand Slam singles titles on Saturday.

Coming into the final, Serena was tied with German icon Steffi Graf for most number (22) of Grand Slam singles titles, she now has sole possession of that record, but is still one behind Australian legend Margaret Court, whose 24 titles came before tennis participation was opened to professional players.

The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, will meet in an Australian Open final for the first time since 2003 as the 30 somethings continued to show that age was just a number, booking their place in the final with dominant displays in the semi-final today.

Six-time champion Serena Williams defeated an exhausted and physically struggling Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2, 6-1 in just 50 minutes in a very one sided contest. Lucic-Baroni, who had done remarkably well to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final this century, came into the match carrying an injury and was absolutely blown away by an in-form Serena, who looks the odds on favourite to capture a record breaking 23rd Grand Slam title.
