West Ham United have announced the signing of veteran Portuguese defender Jose Fonte from their English football league rival Southampton on a two-and-a-half-year contract for a fee of eight million pounds ($9.9 million).

"I signed for West Ham because they are a great club and a very big club. They have a lot of fans and I have known for a number of years how passionate they are," the 33-year-old Euro 2016 winner with Portugal told West Ham's website on Friday night.

New Valencia striker Simone Zaza said he decided to sign for the Spanish football club because it showed the most interest and his intention is to stay here even after his loan period from Juventus expires.

The Italian striker arrived at Valencia on loan from Juventus until the end of the season, after having had a poor spell away to West Ham for the first half of this season. Interestingly, the Spanish club has a purchase option after the loan period ends.

Italian striker Simone Zaza's father and agent Antonio on Thursday announced that his son will take or leave the offer from Spanish football club Valencia over the next 48 hours.

Zaza, 25, moved last summer from Juventus on loan to West Ham United; however, he has not had much luck in the English Premier League (EPL), while Antonio stressed that his son has to think carefully about the move because this is an important step in his career.

West Ham United superstar Dmitri Payet has refused to play for the club, revealed Manager Slaven Bilic in a press conference today.

Bilic, who appeared almost broken hearted at his presser today revealed, "It started 10 days ago when the window started... He's probably been tapped up by some clubs or whatever. That is usual at this time of year."

West Ham United Manager Slaven Bilic hit out at Manchester United defender Phil Jones for reacting theatrically to avoid picking up a booking himself for what he felt was a reckless challenge from the England international, which resulted in the Hammers' Algerian midfielder Sofiane Feghouli getting sent off in the 15th minute of their clash at London's Olympic Stadium on Monday evening.

A poor first touch from Feghouli allowed the ball to get away from the West Ham midfielder, and as he attempted to get to it first, clashed with Phil Jones in what seemed to be a 50-50 challenge.

West Ham United's Senegalese striker Diafra Sakho is expected to remain out for about three months due to surgery on his back, which means he will miss the African Cup of Nations football tournament to be played from January 14 to February 5 in Gabon.

West Ham coach Slaven Bilic on Thursday confirmed the loss of Sakho, who missed the start of the season and reappeared last month.
