The Indians, who were bottom of the Premier League standings, unable to buy a win in the early stages of the tournament, completed a fairytale turnaround to emerge champions in Kolkata today.

Ranchi was at its raucous best as its favourite son MS Dhoni masterminded another win for the Chennai Super Kings to send them through to their 6th IPL final in 8 years, against an old foe in the Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

The Super Kings eked out a narrow 3 wicket win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in a low scoring thriller at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday night.

The Mumbai Indians produced yet another dominant performance, very much akin with their displays in the second half of this season, to power past the Chennai Super Kings by 25 runs into the Final of IPL Season 8.

Having won the toss, Mumbai decided to make first use of a slightly slow Wankhede Stadium pitch, and posted an excellent score of 187-6 on the board in their 20 overs. Their opening partnership of Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel continued to flourish, with the former making an outstanding 65 from just 51 deliveries, while the latter chipped in with 35 from 25 balls.

The Chennai Super Kings reaffirmed their position as the favourites for the title in IPL Season 8 by claiming top spot in the league standings by crushing the Kings XI Punjab in Mohali this afternoon.

The Kings XI won the toss and chose to bat first, but their nightmare summer continued with the bat as they were quickly reduced to 55-5 at the half-way stage in the game. The wickets were as always shared around by the Super Kings bowlers, but Ravichandran Ashwin was once again in spectacular form, taking 1-14 from his 4 overs, while rookie Pawan Negi took 2-25.

The Chennai Super Kings' aspirations of a top 2 finish suffered a bit of a blow today with the Indian Premier League's table toppers suffering a shock 6 wicket defeat at the hands of a Delhi Daredevils side that had just pride to play for.

The Super Kings won the toss and unsurprisingly opted to bat first. They were in for a rude shock however as veteran Indian seamer Zaheer Khan produced a magical opening spell and was given excellent company at the other end by the returning Shahbaz Nadeem, who started the match by bowling a maiden over.

The Chennai Super Kings' ability to protect small totals continues to impress with the multiple time Indian Premier League champions moving back to the top of the IPL standings, beating rivals Rajasthan Royals by 12 runs in a crucial encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.

The Chennai Super Kings won an important toss on a used pitch and had absolutely no hesitation in choosing to bat first. Chennai lost Dwayne Smith (6) and Suresh Raina (3) early in the contest, but Kiwi superstar Brendon McCullum batted through the bulk of the overs, making a crucial 81 from just 61 balls to guide Chennai to a respectable total of 157-5.

After struggling to buy a win early in the season, the Mumbai Indians are quickly becoming the form team heading into the knockout stages of the Indian Premier League, having picked up their fifth win on the bounce by accomplishing a rare feat, beating the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.

The flip of the coin went the way of the home side, and skipper MS Dhoni chose to have a bat. Brendon McCullum powered his way to 23 from 11 balls, giving Chennai a typically quick start, but his opening partner Dwayne Smith was a little off his game today, and struggled to 27 from 35 before holing out to Harbhajan Singh. In between, Chennai also lost the wicket of Suresh Raina for a run a ball 10, leaving them in a spot of bother at 65-3.
