A lot of deals got sealed over the weekend with the chief amongst these being:

a) Loic Remy joined Chelsea from QPR for £8 million

b) Arsenal target Alessio Cerci joined Atletico Madrid from Torino for £13 million

c) Shinji Kagawa rejoined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester United for £6.3 million

d) Marco Van Ginkel joins AC Milan on loan from Chelsea

e) Southampton have agreed a deal to take Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel on loan for the season

Arsenal challenge Chelsea for Loic Remy

The big news doing the rounds this morning is that Arsenal are set to challenge Chelsea for the signature of French striker Loic Remy. While the Blues are hoping to make the QPR their third choice striker, Arsenal are offering the 27 year old a starting berth. However, the Blues are prepared to offer him a higher salary and it will be interesting to see how Remy chooses between the two clubs. (read more)

Arsenal make improved offer for Papastathopoulos

Arsenal are serious about their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos according to the Daily Express and have upped their offer from £10.9 million to £15.8 million for the Greek centre back. (read more)

Arsenal lose out to Roma in pursuit for PSG starlet

AS Roma have proved to be a real thorn in Arsene Wenger’s flesh this summer and they turned on the prickly machine once again, this time beating the Gunners to PSG teenager Adrien Rabiot. The 19 year old had been strongly linked with Arsenal but Roma have brushed aside the English giants to sign the French kid for a fee of £11.4m, repots the Metro. (read more)

Abramovich finally ends Torres’ nightmare stay at Chelsea

The Chelsea owner put his reputation on the line when he wrote a £50m check to Liverpool for the services of their primary striker back in 2011 and after a bucket load of managers failed to ignite the faded Spaniard, Roman Abramovich has relented and allowed Fernando Torres to join AC Milan on a two year loan deal. Chelsea were so desperate to offload the 30 year old that they have agreed to pay £4.6m in wages to Torres over the next two years. (read more)

Real Madrid sign Falcao

Calciomercato is reporting that Real Madrid have wrapped up a loan deal for the season for Colombian hitman Radamel Falcao by meeting AS Monaco's demand of a 20 million euro loan fee. Meanwhile the Metro isn't quite convinced the deal is done yet, and believe there is a three way race for his signature still on with the other two clubs being Juventus and Arsenal. (read more)

Arsenal eye Dortmund duo

Staying with Arsenal briefly, there are media reports circulating that Arsenal are looking to swoop on their Champions League opponents Borussia Dortmund for Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Marco Reus. However, following the Champions League draw it is looking increasingly unlikely that Dortmund will be keen to do business with the Gunners and there is every chance that both of these pursuits could see a dead end. Di Maria completes United move

It was a day of limited good news for Manchester United fans as the Red Devils smashed the British transfer record to sign 26 year old Argentine international Angel di Maria from Real Madrid for £59.7m. Di Maria has inked a 5 year contract with United.

Benatia signs for Bayern Munich

Mehdi Benatia, a top transfer target for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea according to the British press all summer, has ended speculation about his future by moving from AS Roma to Bayern Munich for a surprisingly low fee of just £24m. A definite miss by the English giants there.

Giroud injury leaves Wenger worried

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is set to have a scan today which will reveal the extent of the ankle injury he suffered in the Gunners' 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday. The Daily Telegraph reports that Giroud could be out of action for upto 3 months, which could force Arsene Wenger back into the transfer market for a striker.

Remy and Welbeck on Wenger radar

Meanwhile the Daily Express reports that Arsene Wenger is lining up bids for QPR forward Loic Remy and Manchester United outcast Danny Welbeck as possible replacements for Olivier Giroud. Signing Remy would be easier on paper due to the presence of the release clause in his contract, while Manchester United might require some hard bargaining to convince them to part with Welbeck.

Podolski to leave Arsenal for certain

Lukas Podolski has been linked with a departure from Arsenal in virtually every single transfer window since he joined the club and now it appears that it could well become a reality with Juventus looking set to sign the 29 year old German forward according to the Daily Telegraph. Juve though are only interested in taking Podo on loan for the season, while Arsenal would rather sell the player once and for all. (read more)

Manchester United poised to sign Di Maria

Manchester United have agreed a British record transfer fee of £63.9m for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria according to Sky Sports. The Argentine international is expected to join the Louis van Gaal revolution at Old Trafford this week. (read more)
