The lack of quality in the wide areas has been the biggest flaw in Man United’s season so far, costing them long runs in the cup competitions. The most frustrating of the trio of wingers at the club has been Nani as the Portuguese is by far the most talented of the lot. Nani’s contract troubles and injuries haven’t helped his season a great deal and his latest performance at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea has only added to the opinion that the 26 year old might need a new environment.

Sir Alex Ferguson had stated earlier this year that Nani wasn’t for sale and that the winger would be offered a suitable contract when the need arises, but with his deal expiring next year there isn’t much time left. Zenit and Inter tried to land the former Sporting Lisbon attacker last summer but his wage demands scuppered a possible move.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been planning to add Colombian winger James Rodriguez to his squad since last summer and he is now considering using out of favour Portuguese star Nani as a makeweight to compel Porto to sell this summer, reported the Metro.

20 year-old Rodriguez started his career at Argentine club Banfield and arrived at Porto in 2008. The winger established his place in their starting eleven by last season and pundits have labeled the youngster as the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Ferguson identified the Porto star as a target last summer, but failed to convince the Portuguese club to sell.

English Premier League Club Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their attempts to sign 17 year old Real Madrid starlet Jose Rodriguez. Rodriguez is a central midfielder tipped to have a big future ahead of him by his current manager Jose Mourinho. Real Madrid are reportedly looking to tie the young talent down to a long term deal when he turns 18 in December, a deal that is presumed to have a big release clause in it.

Arsenal have been scouting the talent for a while now and even offered a 5 year deal for the player in 2011 but Rodriguez subsequently rejected the offer. The release clause is reported to be around £9.6 million and it will be interesting to see if Arsene Wenger, who prides himself on finding and securing young talent, matches that valuation to prise Jose Rodriguez away from Madrid.

Roman Abramovich likes transfers. After replacing Roberto Di Matteo on the Chelsea hot seat with former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, he is eyeing moves for Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao, Napoli's Edinson Cavani and Porto's James Rodriguez in the January transfer window.

According to the London Evening Standard, last year's Champions League winners are looking to add more firepower to their attack by landing the South American trio in the winter transfer window as their current strikers, Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge continue to disappoint on the goal scoring front.

The accounts issued ahead of the club's AGM next month show that the Clarets made a profit of £3.16 million for the year ending 30 June, 2012. That followed a deficit of £4 million for the year 2010/11 and was largely due to the sale of Jay Rodriguez to Southampton.

The club made an operating loss of £4.4 million but the transfer of Rodriguez pushed the Clarets into the black and also allowed the club to re-invest in the current squad headed by new captain Jason Shackell. Rodriguez's club record sale also allowed the Clarets to make a transfer profit of £8.5 million.

Manchester United have grown frustrated with contract rebel Nani and are planning to sell him for £20 million. The Red Devils have made plans to use the funds to bring in Porto star James Rodriguez as a replacement in the next summer transfer window.

Nani was recently offered a new contract with the club but the Portugal international turned down the deal demanding greater wages. United are unwilling to pay the winger the amount he demands and since the 25 year-old’s current contract expires in 2014, the club are desperate to offload him before his value deprecates significantly when he enters his final 12 months at Old Trafford, reported the Daily Star.

News that Manchester United are planning to sell off Portuguese winger Nani and bring in new Porto star James Rodriguez as a replacement gained further momentum this week with reports indicating that Nani has been attracting interest from Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan.

Meanwhile, the Colombian international, who has been dubbed the South American Cristiano Ronaldo, played down the Red Devils’ interest in him, saying, “We all know that Manchester United are a great club. England is a great league but I’m thinking of Porto for now. We’re having a good time and personally I’m feeling fine and am focused on there.”
