Italian midfielder Thiago Motta on Tuesday extended his contract with Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain for another season, binding him with the club until June 30, 2018.

After Motta's last contract expired at the end of June, the two sides were involved in a twist-and-turn discussion. The Italian midfielder had been reported to leave the club, but the negotiation warmed up during recent days, and the player finally put his pen on the new contract.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have terminated the contract of Director of Football Patrick Kluivert after the appointment of Portuguese Antero Henrique as the club's Sports Director on June 2.

"By mutual agreement, Paris Saint-Germain and Patrick Kluivert have taken the decision to end, effective as of June 9, the contract that bound them," the club announced on Friday.

Paris Saint-Germain earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Angers as a late own goal in the final of the centennial edition allowed the capital club to lift the French Cup trophy for a record 11th time.

Angers defender Issa Cissokho was the unfortunate player to deflect the ball into his own net as a PSG's corner in stoppage time provided the match-winner.

AS Monaco secured their first Ligue 1 title since 2000 with a 2-0 home win against Saint-Etienne in a rescheduled match.

Monaco have virtually won the french top division football championship ahead of the rescheduled 31st round of matches, as they led defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, who had one game remaining, by three points with a far superior goal difference, and a draw with eighth-ranked Saint-Etienne would earn them a tight grip on the trophy.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Marco Verratti's agent has insisted that the Italian star will not leave the capital football club this summer, clarifying that his client is with an ambitious outfit.

The 24-year-old, who is under contract at PSG until 2021, has been linked with several top European clubs like Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain are set to put the Ligue 1 football title chase deadlocked for another round having both picked up three easy points. While Leaders Monaco won 3-0 over Nancy away on Saturday, keeping a three-point cushion over PSG, who controversially battered bottom-ranked Bastia 5-0 at Parc des Princes in the capital.

Monaco took the lead on Nancy defender Tobias Badila's own goal just three minutes into the game, before that was extended by Bernardo Silva, who headed in Thomas Lemar's cross from the left. Kylian Mbappe, Monaco's 18-year-old sensation, took advantage of his speed to set up Lemar for a three-goal margin with four minutes to go.

Edinson Cavani's 31st league goal of the season earned defending champions Paris Saint-Germain a 2-0 home win against Montpellier, sending the club to the top of Ligue 1 table three points clear of AS Monaco, who have two games in hand.

It was also Cavani's 44th goal in all competitions this season. The Uruguayan striker put Blaise Matuidi's left-flank cross into the net in the 29th minute on Saturday. Three minutes into the second half, Cavani back-heeled released Angel Di Maria, who fired a powerful shot from outside the box for his fifth goal in his last five games.
