South Africa lost 1-0 to Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2016 Edition of the CAF African Women’s Cup of Nations on Tuesday in Limbe, Cameroon as the defending champions set up a final clash with the hosts Cameroon who earlier beat Ghana by the same scoreline.

Banyana Banyana put up a gallant fight and with the help of the vociferous crowd behind them throughout the match, Nigeria needed a wicked deflected goal to earn a place in the final and to separate the two giants of African football.

Banyana Banyana interim head coach Desiree Ellis says they want to change their fortunes when they face Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2016 CAF African Women’s Cup of Nations tonight (Tuesday, 29 November). The match takes place at State Limbe Omnisport in Limbe, Cameroon. Kickoff is at 20h00 South African time.

The Nigerians have dominated this competition over the years, winning a record nine times. Banyana Banyana have only come close on four occasions where they finished as runners up in 1995, 2000, 2008 and 2012.

Nigeria's national football team began to tune up for next Saturday's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against North African rivals Algeria. Nigerian team officials told the press today that training has commenced in the country's capital, Abuja.

Nigeria had invited a total of 25 players to tune up for the Algerians known to have a fast-paced attacking squad. The match is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in the southeastern city of Uyo.

Cameroon drew 1-1 with Algeria in their away match of the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Algiers. Algeria, coached by Serbian Milovan Rajevac, scored the opener through striker El Arbi Hillal Soudani in the seventh minute on Sunday evening before Benjamin Moukandjo equalized for the Indomitable Lions 17 minutes later.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria managed to secure a precious away win against Zambia 2-1, as the Super Eagles stand on top of Group 8 with three points, followed by Cameroon and Algeria with 1 point each, while Zambia is fourth with no points.
