The Lotus team flattered to deceive yet again as the Enstone based outfit had a weekend to forget as Kimi Raikkonen brought home points in a lowly 9th placed finish whilst Romain Grosjean starting from the back of the grid finished in 13th place outside the points scoring positions.

The start of the race saw the Iceman Raikkonen remain static in 10th place without making much headway up the field as Grosjean found himself  climbing up the field, but not anywhere near the points scoring positions.

he Enstone based Lotus outfit endured a disappointing weekend in Monaco as Kimi Raikkonen was the lone driver to finish in the points in 10th place. The Iceman was running in the top 5 for the majority of the race but a late incident with the McLaren of Sergio Perez saw his hopes of a top 5 finish evaporate instantly. However, the former Champion made a late dash to the finish line to claim the final championship point.

Romain Grosjean was running outside the points scoring positions throughout the afternoon, but his race came to a premature end as the Franco Swiss driver collided with the rear-end of the Toro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo under heavy braking for the chicane. This incident forced the Lotus team to wheel back his Lotus E21 safely back into the garage.

Nico Rosberg oozed class as he romped to victory in the Monaco Grand Prix to finally get the monkey off his back, as he converted his scintillating pole position into victory on the legendary streets. The victory meant Rosberg is now the only-second generation winner in the Principality, following his father Keke Rosberg’s victory during the 1983 season.

On a chaotic afternoon in the Principality, which began with the Red Bull team lodging a formal protest with the FIA against the Mercedes team for conducting a test in Spain after the race with tyre manufacturers Pirelli, an eventful race followed which was marked by two safety car periods and a brief halt owing to a red flag.

Nico Rosberg demonstrated his raw pace as the German driver after dominating Thursday’s running continued where he left off as he topped the final Practice session in Monte Carlo to complete a clean sweep of Free Practice sessions this weekend. The German’s best effort- a 1:14.378 effort was a massive 0.6s up over 2nd placed Lotus ace Romain Grosjean who continued his love affair with the barriers at Ste Devote as the Franco-Swiss driver drove right into the barriers with just seconds remaining in the session.

Sebastian Vettel rounded off the top 3 for Red Bull as race winner in Spain last time around, Fernando Alonso ended the session 4th fastest- nearly a second off Rosberg’s best effort. Lewis Hamilton rounded off the top 5 in his Mercedes ahead of fellow big-guns such as Kimi Raikkonen and Mark Webber.

Following the Spanish conquest by Fernando Alonso in Barcelona, Formula 1’s next destination is a short hop up the Mediterranean coast to the azure waters of Monte Carlo. The streets of the seaside principality of Monaco host round six of the season, arguably the biggest and most prestigious event of the year.

What le Tour de France is to cycling, the Superbowl is to American football, the Indianapolis 500 to Indycar, Wrestlemania  to wrestling entertainment, the Monaco Grand Prix is to Formula 1. The race is one of the oldest events on the calendar, and indeed the longest running Grand Prix to be held on the same circuit. And coupled with the setting in the millionaires’ playground that is Monte Carlo, the blue riband event invariably is unparalleled in terms of glamour and atmosphere surrounding the race.
