The Indian Aces were beaten 20-30 by UAE Royals in an International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) match on Sunday. Swiss star Martina Hingis led Royals to the top of the table at the end of the Japan leg of the tournament on Sunday. The tournament next moves to Singapore.

From the very beginning, the Dubai-based team showed confidence and resilience to dominate against the Aces, comprising Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna.

Canada Soccer’s development pathway appears secure as the U-20 Women’s National Team wrapped up the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016. Having chosen to field a young team, with an average starting lineup age of 17.3, Canada has tested its talent, and is buoyed by the prospects coming through the Excel System.

While Canada ended its tournament with a 5-0 final group match loss to Japan, the team boasted some impressive stats that suggest the future is bright indeed. Six of the starting lineup, including the goalkeeper, featured for Canada’s U-17 team at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, and seven members of the squad can return for the next cycle in 2018. Emma Regan, a starting fullback in all three of Canada’s matches, is eligible to return to this tournament twice more.

With just one point separating the top four teams in the group, the 2018 football World Cup qualifying match between Australia and Japan on Tuesday could prove crucial to both nations' hopes of making it to Russia.

Akito Tanahashi netted a hat-trick as Japan registered their second consecutive win at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship with an 8-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan on Monday.

After an even opening 30 minutes of the Group B match, the two-time champions opened the scoring through Tanahashi before goals from Takefusa Kubo and Keito Nakamura increased the half-time advantage to three.

Forward Ahmad Khalil scored twice to help hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) beat Japan 2-1 in a 2018 football World Cup qualifier.

With this win, the UAE boosted its chances to qualify for the second time for the World Cup finals after the Gulf state participated in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Japan, four-time Asian champions, started on a positive note and took the lead through Keisuke Honda, who scored in the 11th minute with a header in front of 63,700 spectators at the sold-out Saitama Stadium in Dubai on Thursday.

But soon after the goal, the UAE started counter-attacking as a result forward Ahmad Khalil equalised in the 20th minute and then scored in the 50th minute to pocket the match.


Japanese shuttler Nozomi Okuhara won bronze at the Rio Olympics after injured reigning champion Li Xuerui gave a walk-over in the women's singles bronze medal match of the badminton competition on Friday.

The ambitious Japanese women's basketball team failed to make history at the Olympics as they lost 110-64 to the powerhouse United States in a quarter-final match in Rio.

The Asian champions, aiming for a medal finish, battled in every corner of the court in the first half on Tuesday before they were beaten by the Americans.
