The match-ups to contest the final four European tickets to the 2018 FIFA World Russia have been decided, as the play-off ties featuring the group stage's eight best second-placed sides were confirmed in Zurich today.

Drawn by Spain legend Fernando Hierro at the Home of FIFA, the results mean Germany 2006 winners Italy will face Sweden, while Switzerland were paired with Northern Ireland, Croatia meet Greece and Denmark will take on Republic of Ireland.

The Springboks were drawn with holders New Zealand and Italy at the Rugby World Cup 2019 Pool Allocation Draw, which took place in Kyoto, Japan on Wednesday.

South Africa is one of five teams in Pool B for the 2019 tournament, which will take place in Japan in two years’ time.

For many years, an unwritten rule in football said a game lasted 90 minutes. The survey by a sports magazine has now revealed that the actual average playing time in the top four football leagues in Europe is less than 58 minutes - even accounting for added time.

While in Germany's Bundesliga, the actual net playing time is 56 minutes and five seconds, in the English Premier League it is also about 56 minutes. The Spanish La Liga only provides its fans with just under 54 minutes. Italian fans are best off with the Serie A's 57 minutes.

Spain and Italy eased past their opponents to stay unbeaten in Group G of the 2018 football World Cup European qualifiers, with Italian veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon playing the 1,000th game of his career.

Spain have extended their unbeaten streak in World Cup qualifiers to 58 matches with a 4-1 home victory over Israel, as David Silva, Vitolo, Diego Costa and Isco all found the net, while Thiago Alcantara and Silva himself saw the ball hit the woodwork. Lior Refaelov scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 76th minute.

The Italian Tennis Federation named Fabio Fognini, Andreas Seppi, Simone Bolelli and Paolo Lorenzi as the four members of the team to play defending champions Argentina in the first round of the 2017 Davis Cup next month, .

Bolelli, 31 and world no. 459, is the main addition for the team after being out in the last part of the 2016 season because of an injury to his left knee.

Springbok coach Allister Coetzee and captain, Adriaan Strauss, apologised to the South African nation on Saturday after the team suffered a 20-18 loss against Italy in Florence earlier in the day.

Coetzee described the loss as the darkest moment of his coaching career, while he also congratulated Italy on their historic win.

Eben Etzebeth will not be considered for the Springboks’ Test match against Italy on Saturday following the concussion he suffered against England, Springbok coach Allister Coetzee said on Monday.

The Springbok lock left the field in the first half after a head collision in the weekend’s Test against England at Twickenham.
