Sania Mirza and her partner Barbora Strycova fought off a strong challenge from Martina Hingis and Chan Yung-Jan to reach the women's double final at the Miami Open tennis tournament.

Sania and Barbora lost the opening set of their semi-final clash here on Friday evening before staging a superb comeback to script a 6-7, 6-1, [10-4] against their fifth seeded opponents.

Veteran Leander Paes and his mixed doubles partner Martina Hingis were knocked out of the Australian Open in a 3-6, 2-6 defeat by Sam Groth and Samantha Stosur in the quarter-finals on Thursday. The Indo-Swiss pair went down without putting up much of a fight, surrendering in only 55 minutes at Melbourne Park.

The Australian pair were dominant from the start, hitting as many as 12 aces in the match, nine more than their opponents. They also hit 29 winners, nine more than the experienced Paes-Martina, and won 56 of the total 93 points played in the match, converting four of the seven break points received.

Indian tennis veteran Leander Paes and his Swiss mixed doubles partner Martina Hingis entered the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Monday. Paes and Martina beat Australians Casey Dellacqua and Matt Reid 6-2, 6-3 in a second round match at Melbourne Park in 54 minutes.

The Indo-Swiss pair got an early break in the fourth game of the first set. They led 5-2 shortly after and then broke their opponents' serve again to claim the first set in 24 minutes.

World No.8 Roberta Vinci of Italy and multiple Grand Slam winner Martina Hingis will be among the star attractions in the Guangzhou International Women's tennis tournament which will be held from September 17-24.

Defending champion Jelena Jankovic will come to the tournament for the fourth time, and aims to be the first player to retain her title in the history of the Guangzhou Open.

Sania Mirza took sole control of top spot in the women's doubles rankings after beating former partner Martina Hingis in the final of the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament. Sania and Barbora Strycova defeated Martina Hingis and Coco Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-4 in the final in Cincinnati on Sunday.

The win enabled Sania to take sole possession of the rankings with 11,260 points, followed by Hingis, who has 10,945, according to the latest list issued by Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on Monday. Sania has now been at the top of the women's doubles rankings for 70 straight weeks.

The Sania Mirza - Martina Hingis doubles partnership might have broken up, but the Swiss legend revealed on her Instagram page that the duo would team up one final time at the year-end WTA Finals in Singapore in October to defend their title.

The highly successful doubles team that went on an unparalleled winning streak in 2015, have found their partnership struggle this year with teams having figured out a way to counter their success.

A bad day for Indians at Wimbledon worsened as the last remaining Indian hope Leander Paes and his partner Martina Hingis, the defending champions, crashed out in the third round of the mixed doubles event to home player Heather Watson and Finland's Henri Kontinen 6-3, 3-6, 2-6 in an hour and 31 minutes.

After facing an early breakpoint, the Indo-Swiss pairing rushed to a 4-1 lead and then were pegged back to 4-3 but Hingis produced a glorious return winner to break Watson's serve. Paes then held serve authoritatively to close out the opening set 6-3.
