Arsenal’s second choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is reported to be on the summer transfer list of Turkish club Besiktas J.K., reported The Daily Star.

The 28 year old has not managed more than a handful of appearances for the Gunners this season, playing second fiddle to compatriot Wojciech Szczesny. Fabianski has made just 5 starts this term, and despite them being decent ones, it is unlikely that Arsene Wenger would be looking towards extending his contract which expires in June 2014. The Pole’s last double figure appearances in a single season came way back in 2010-11 when he managed a total of 21 starts for his club.

Arsenal nearly pulled off the unthinkable against the mighty German giants Bayern Munich on Wednesday night in their Round of 16 Champions League clash as they put on a spirited display to beat the hosts at the Allianz arena 2-0 away from home. It wasn’t to be for the Gunners though as they were beaten on the away goals rule after the two sides finished level (3-3) on aggregate after both legs. This means that Bayern now progress to the quarterfinals of the competition with a slender win while Arsenal bow out with pride from it for the second consecutive year.

The game was very similar to Arsenal’s round of 16 clash against AC Milan last year where the Gunners turned up after being completely written off before the tie. Arsenal opened the scoring and with it a glimmer of hope as Oliver Giroud tapped in a good ball from Theo Walcott across the area to put Arsenal ahead in just the 3rd minute of the game. Bayern looked nervous for a while after that shock goal but found their passing and composure to keep the ball well as the game went on. Arsenal were a completely different defensive outfit to the one that conceded many sloppy goals this season as the new centre half pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny worked wonders for the team. Arsenal repelled many a Bayern attack in the second half with some determined defending and some assured goalkeeping by the surprise inclusion Lukasz Fabianski.

Arsenal showed that they are not yet the spent force in European football that all the naysayers would have one believe as they produced a terrific performance with their backs to the wall, and beat mighty Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena 2-0 courtesy goals from Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny. Sadly for the Gunners the result was not enough to overturn their 3-1 home loss to the soon to be German Champions, and Arsenal went out of the Champions League on away goals.

Arsenal had their work cut out for them as they made the trip over to Germany to take on the runaway Bundesliga leaders, who had humbled the North Londoners on their own patch. Bayern came into this match on an 11-game winning streak, and no one gave Arsenal a chance after they lost dynamic midfielder Jack Wilshere to injury in the run up to the game.

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the progress of impressive Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet with great interest according to The Sun. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is believed to be in the market for a new No.1 after he is unconvinced by the performance of his 1st team keeper Wojciech Szczesny. The Polish international has made quite a few costly errors albeit amidst a couple of good performances in goal for the North London side. Szczesny’s inconsistency has led his manager into looking elsewhere for a better No.1 and Mignolet would fit the bill perfectly.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s second and third choice keepers, Lukas Fabianski and Vito Mannone have been reported to be unsettled due to lack of playing time at the club and we may well see an overhaul of Goalkeepers at the club. Should Arsenal pursue their interest and secure the services of the 24 year old Mignolet, we could well see a change in the pecking order at the club with Szczesny likely to drop to second choice among the keepers.

Arsene Wenger could have an almost fully fit squad in a few weeks with winger Theo Walcott ruled out of any real danger following a chest injury against San Marino last weekend. About Walcott, the manager told the club website, “Theo is out for Saturday, for sure. He has an injury to his chest and lungs. We have to treat that clinically. He's quickly short of breath when he makes an effort but it's bruising and that will heal.”

Kieran Gibbs had to be been taken off in Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over West Ham and the left-back is unlikely to return to action for at least another week. Brazilian Andre Santos could be handed his first Premier League start of the season as Gibbs spends time on the sidelines.

Arsenal's third choice keeper Vito Mannone is set to get some more first team games under his belt, with news coming in that 27 year old Lukasz Fabianski could be out for another three months due to ruptured ankle ligaments, reports the Daily Mail.

The Poilsh custodian has been out since February due to shoulder injuries, and was nearing match fitness. However, this recent injury to him could shape both Arsenal's and Mannone's season, especially as the Italian has been making his presence felt with clean sheets against Stoke and Liverpool, and a commendable performance against Manchester City in the 1-1 draw.
