The result is a massive disappointment for Finnish ace Raikkonen who expected to challenge for the drivers' title, but his championship challenge has now definitely ended.

The Enstone based Lotus team had a clean start to proceedings as "Iceman" Kimi Raikkonen maintained his starting position of 7th place whilst Romain Grosjean did not get the lightning quick getaway he needed as the Frenchman was seen languishing outside the top 10 in 12th place.

McLaren, tipped to halt the Red Bull charge on Sunday, would view the Indian GP as a lost opportunity to close the gap on old-foe Ferrari as Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button could only muster 4th and 5th places respectively. It was a case of the glass being half-empty for the Woking based outfit as they lacked pace to compete with the Red Bulls, but were outfoxed by the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso who breezed past the McLaren duo with little resistance. The result leaves Hamilton in 5th place in the drivers' chase with 165 points whilst Button stays in 6th place with 141 points.

The Mercedes team endured yet another disappointing weekend as the German marquee left India with no points added on board. The team is still unable to arrest its downhill slide as Nico Rosberg struggled with tyre issues which have destroyed their season, whilst Michael Schumacher never really recovered from a puncture suffered on the opening lap. The team decided to strategically retire the veteran German with a few laps remaining to have the freedom to change machinery for the next race.

The German based marquee had a dismal start to proceedings as Michael Schumacher was caught up with Jean-Eric Vergne's Toro Rosso resulting in the 7 times Champion suffering a right-rear puncture. The advantage of starting the German on the hard compounds was negated as the team got him into the pits to swap to the soft tyres. Nico Rosberg however steered clear of trouble as he regained his starting position and was running in the final points scoring position in 10th place.

The Reigning Double Champion in the process also took his second consecutive Indian GP victory with teammate Mark Webber finishing in 3rd place having weathered the storm to finish ahead of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who was right on the Aussie's tail for the final set of corners.

The Red Bulls starting from the front row for a third successive race had a clean getaway as Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were quick off the blocks to ensure they stay away from the DRS zone. aust_pit_stop.jpgOne of the key elements of any race strategy is the pit stop and with three of these high pressure mandatory stops across two races in A1GP, a slick pit crew can make all the difference. Getting it right is a pain-staking process, which 2008/09 ‘Pit Stop Kings,' A1 Team Australia, explain is down to continued hard work that gives them the ability to perform under pressure, whatever the challenge.

While a team of engineers and mechanics will do all they can during practice and qualifying to set-up the car to the driver's liking, when the lights go out, it is then up to the person behind the wheel to do the best possible job with the machinery.
