Defending champions Argentina will miss the services of former World No.4 tennis star Juan Martin Del Potro for their next month's Davis Cup tie against Italy, Argentine captain Daniel Orsanic has revealed.

Orsanic said Diego Schwartzman, Horacio Zeballos, Guido Pella and Leonardo Mayer will play for Argentina in the February 3 to 5 tie at the capital's Sarmiento Park.

Argentine wildcard Juan Martin del Potro defeated fifth-seeded Belgian David Goffin 7-5, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Swiss Indoors where he will take on Japan's Kei Nishikori.

Del Potro, who appears to have put a series of injury problems behind him and has been making a charge up the rankings in recent weeks, succeeded in imposing his lethal forehand on the fleet-footed Goffin to take the contest in an hour and a half and win his seventh straight match on Thursday.

Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro defeated American Jack Sock 7-5, 6-1 in the summit clash to clinch the Stockholm Open tennis tournament at the Kungliga Tennishallen. The 2009 US Open champion needed just 76 minutes to prevail over the top ranked American player on Sunday.

Del Potro's win in Stockholm marks his first title triumph in nearly 3 years, with his last win having come at the start of the 2014 season when he beat Bernard Tomic to win the title in Sydney.

Spain's Rafael Nadal and Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro are among the players who will compete at next year's Mexican Open in the Pacific port city of Acapulco.

30-year-old Nadal, the champion in Acapulco in 2005 and 2013, will be vying for his third title at the event, which will be held from February 27 to March 4, 2017, tournament director Raul Zurutuza said in a press conference in Mexico City on Tuesday.

Third seeded Stanislas Wawrinka reached the US Open semi-finals for the third time with a battling 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro, who just ran out of gas at the end of a long few weeks for the returning Argentine.

The Swiss, who hit 53 winners including 10 aces here on Wednesday, will now face sixth seed and 2014 finalist Kei Nishikori, who beat Andy Murray, the second seed and 2012 winner, earlier in the day.
