Brazil and Colombia will meet in an international friendly in January to raise money for those affected by last week's plane crash that devastated Brazil's Chapecoense football club. The match will be played on January 22 or 25 with the venue yet to be decided, according to a Brazilian football confederation (CBF) spokesman.

All proceeds from the fixture will be donated to families of those affected by the disaster. In addition, the CBF said it would donate five million reais (around 1.5 million US dollars) to the stricken club.

Lionel Messi scored a goal and set up two others as Argentina brought their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track with a 3-0 victory over Colombia. Messi opened the scoring in the 10th minute at the Bicentenario stadium on Tuesday with a curling free kick that left Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina clasping at thin air.

Lucas Pratto made it 2-0 soon after when he met a pinpoint Messi cross with a header that flew in at the far post. Messi put the result beyond doubt when he dribbled into the box and picked out Angel Di Maria, who rifled his shot passed Ospina from close range.

Colombian defender Yerry Mina scored a last-minute header, salvaging a 2-2 tie for his team against Uruguay in the World Cup football qualifier match at the Metropolitano Stadium here.

Jose Pekerman's squad opened the scoring in the 15th minute on Tuesday with a header by midfielder Abel Aguilar, but the Uruguayans evened things up in the 27th minute with a header of their own by Cristian "Cebolla" Rodriguez.

Brazil coach Tite said he will try to convince ace forward Neymar to reverse his decision to quit as the national football team captain. Neymar stood down as the Selecao's leader on Saturday after Brazil defeated Germany on penalties to win their first Olympic Games football gold medal in Rio.

"I said to Neymar that he should celebrate for now and worry about (the captaincy) later," Tite told a press conference here on Monday.

The U.S. Women's National Team won its group for the fifth consecutive Olympic Games with a dramatic 2-2 draw with Colombia at Amazonia Arena in its final Group G match of the 2016 Olympic Games.

Already assured of advancing to the knockout rounds and needing only a point to win Group G after defeating New Zealand and France in its first two games, the USA fielded a much-changed side from its opening two games with the purpose of keeping the squad fresh in the face of the long trip to the hot and humid conditions of Manaus deep in the Brazilian Amazon.

Sporting Lisbon striker Teofilo Gutierrez and Levante midfielder Jefferson Lerma have been named in Colombia's football team for next month's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The pair were the only European-based players included in the 18-man squad announced by the Colombian football federation on Thursday. Also included was forward Miguel Borja, who has helped Atletico Nacional into the final of the Copa Libertadores.

Team USA secured a second fourth place finish in its Copa America history after a 1-0 loss to Colombia at University of Phoenix Stadium in the teams' final match of the 2016 Copa America Centenario.

The USA had to once again shuffle its defence, this time due to injury, as Matt Besler was drafted into the middle alongside Geoff Cameron and Michael Orozco came in at right back. Additionally, veteran goalkeeper Tim Howard saw his first action of the competition, starting in goal in place of No. 1 'keeper Brad Guzan.
