Manchester City came from behind twice to prevail 5-3 over Monaco in an exciting first-leg clash of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie.

Monaco posed a stiff challenge for City at the Etihad Stadium here on Tuesday in a match plagued by defensive lapses on both sides. The first goal of the high scoring encounter came in the 26th minute, as Raheem Sterling put the hosts ahead with a major assist from Leroy Sane.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has predicted the that the club will win the English Premier League (EPL) within the next four years.

"I have absolutely loved the way they have played - their football, the pace of the full-backs. Tottenham will go on and win the Premier League in the next three or four years," Redknapp told BBC Radio 5.

Chinese Super League (CSL) outfit Shanghai SIPG on Wednesday confirmed the signing of former Real Madrid and Chelsea footballer Ricardo Carvalho.

"We have completed the signing since we came back from the winter training in Doha, why we announced so late is because the registration was unsettled and we had to think carefully about the use of the veteran under the new policy of foreign players," SIPG said.

Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 2-0 to leap-frog Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal into second place in the Premier League standings.

City's in form Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus left the field at Bournemouth's Vitality stadium on Saturday with a foot injury in the 15th minute, making way for the return of Argentine striker Sergio "Kun" Agüero, who started the last three matches on the bench. The substitution did nothing to slow the visitors' attack, which relied on the pace of wingers Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has warned his players not to go overboard with celebrations following their victory over Tottenham Hotspur in an English Premier League (EPL) clash.

Liverpool rode on first half goals from star winger Sadio Mané to beat Tottenham 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday. The result saw them climb to the fourth spot on the table with 49 points from 25 matches. But with league leaders Chelsea on 59 points from 24 games, Klopp warned that his team still have a mountain to climb in order to catch up.

Liverpool responded to Arsenal and Manchester United's wins earlier in the day, but it will be Chelsea's fans who will be ending Saturday with the biggest smiles on their faces as Tottenham Hotspur's slender hopes of chasing down the Blues in the race for the Premier League title appeared to go up in smoke following a dire first half display as Spurs went down 2-0 at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield.

Sadio Mane will draw all the plaudits as the Senegalese international celebrated his return to form after a disappointing end to the Africa Cup of Nations, with two goals inside a three minute spell that left Spurs looking absolutely clueless as their cavalier approach despite the absence of two key defenders left them vulnerable at the back.
