Swiss legend Roger Federer edged past Tomas Berdych 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) in a back-and-forth quarter-final match at the Miami Open, clinching victory after saving two match points in the third-set tie-breaker.

Federer dominated the beginning of the match on Thursday in much the same way he did when these two players squared off at the Australian Open earlier this year. The 35-year-old Swiss tennis great, who routed Berdych 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in the third round in Melbourne in January, got an early break of serve on Stadium court and a second one on an outrageous, high-lofted drop shot that the surprised Berdych did not even try to track down. He then closed out the set by holding serve in the eighth game.

Fourth seed Milos Raonic hit 17 aces to beat Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6 (5), 6-4 for a berth into the last 16 of the ATP Paris Masters. The 25-year-old Canadian, who received a bye into the second-round contest, took one hour and 14 minutes here on Tuesday to see off the world No. 31 Spaniard, also 25, without facing a single break point.

After pulling out of the China Open semi-finals with a right ankle injury, losing in the third round of the Shanghai Masters and last week's Swiss Indoors first round, Raonic is hoping to use the Paris tourney to fine tune his preparation for the ATP World Tour Finals.

World no.1 Novak Djokovic stretched his unbeaten record at Grand Slams to 30 straight matches, dispatching Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets to advance to the round of 32 at Wimbledon. Joining the defending champion in the third round is Roger Federer, also a straight sets winner over overnight British sensation Marcus Willis, as the two biggest names in the men's draw made their way through on another rain ruined day at the Championships.

Only a host of other singles matches were completed on another wet Wednesday at Wimbledon with the tournament struggling to get through the first round for most players.

The top four seeds in the men's draw took their pre-anointed places in the Australian Open quarter-finals, but it was a day of some lopsided scorelines with Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori dominating their respective fourth round opponents, while Novak Djokovic and Tomas Berdych both needed five sets to squeeze into the last 8.

World no.1 Novak Djokovic played arguably his worst match in over a year, but somehow still managed to win, despite making an incredible 100 unforced errors against 14th seed Gilles Simon.
