Marcel Keizer, coach of the Dutch football club Ajax reserve side, has been promoted as head coach of the first team and will sign an initial two-year contract on July 1, with an option to extend one year

"Marcel Keizer has been appointed as the head coach of Ajax's first team. He will soon be signing a contract which will take effect on July 1, 2017, for two years, until June 30, 2019. An option for an additional year has been included in the contract," Ajax said in a statement.

AFC Ajax and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement on the transfer of chief coach Peter Bosz to the German fotball club as successor of Thomas Tuchel, both clubs announced on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old Dutchman will sign a contract until 2019 at Dortmund. His contract at Ajax expired in 2019. Assistant Hendrie Kruzen makes the same step from Ajax to Dortmund.

Veteran striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has agreed to rejoin Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, with the 33-year-old forward signing a one year contract with the club on Thursday.

Huntelaar played for German club FC Schalke 04 over the last seven seasons, but his contract in Germany expired and was not renewed.

English Premier League (EPL) side Manchester United lifted the Europa League trophy with a 2-0 victory over Ajax Amsterdam in the final, also securing an automatic spot in next season's UEFA Champions League group phase.

Injury-riddled Man United finished a mere sixth in the EPL and had to hinge on winning the Europa League as only the league's top four could qualify for the Champions League.

Two of the continent's most historic football clubs, Manchester United and AFC Ajax laboured past Celta Vigo and Lyon, respectively, to enter the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Ajax resisted Ligue 1 side Lyon's 3-1 home win to bag an aggregate score at 5-4 on Thursday in France, while United built on their one-goal advantage in the first leg for a 2-1 aggregate against Celta Vigo in Manchester.

Ajax took a big step in their quest for a first European title in 21 years, thrashing Olympique Lyon 4-1 in the first leg of their Europa League football semi-final. Bertrand Traore was the dominant figure for the Dutch side, scoring two goals and assisting on a third on Wednesday night.

Lyon looked more comfortable in the first 20 minutes of the contest in front of nearly 50,000 spectators at a packed Amsterdam Arena.

Dutch football club Ajax has announced that the Amsterdam Arena is to be renamed in honour of the legendary Johan Cruyff.

Ajax, the stadium management, the Amsterdam mayor and the city council reached an accord to re-baptize the venue as Johan Cruyff Arena, the club said on Tuesday.
