German football giants Bayern Munich humiliated Arsenal 5-1 to complete a 10-2 triumph in their Champions League knockout stage tie at the Emirates Stadium in London.

While few expected the Gunners to prevail after being routed 1-5 in the first leg in Munich, the disgust of the fans at the Emirates after the final whistle on Tuesday was palpable. This marks the seventh consecutive year, Arsenal has been knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16.

If he were in forward Alexis Sanchez's position, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says he would have left capital football club Arsenal.A row with teammates further singed Sanchez's reputation while leaving training mid-session prior to Saturday's loss at Liverpool. As a result, the Chilean was dropped.

"It's not looking good for Arsenal and him. I believe his agent is probably on the phone to people now," Wright was quoted as saying to BBC Radio 5 live's 606 programme on Sunday.

Liverpool put up a superlative first half display on Saturday to outshine Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield and dent the capital club's hopes of challenging for the Premier League title. Roberto Firmino (9th minute) and Sadio Mane (40th) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before Danny Welbeck (57th) reduced Arsenal's deficit in the second half.

Moments after Arsenal sub Alexis Sanchez had an effort blocked at the other end, Liverpool broke with pace and Georginio Wijnaldum sealed the game in Liverpool's favour in injury time, sending the Reds up to third spot.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger on Thursday said he is not looking to be head coach of FC Barcelona when Luis Enrique leaves the Catalan side at the end of the season.

Wenger's name is on the list of possible coaches for Barcelona's coach, but he has always reiterated that his preference would be to stay at Arsenal.

Robert Lewandowski led the way with a hattrick as FC Bayern Munich hammered Hamburger SV 8-0 in a rather one-sided clash in the Bundesliga football championship. In another match in the German top division on Saturday evening, Leipzig reaped their second consecutive win after beating Cologne 3-1.

Table toppers Bayern showed no mercy with Hamburg as the German giants whitewashed the visitors, scoring thrice in the first half half and five times after halftime.

Former Arsenal forward, Serge Gnarby's brace sewed up Werder Bremen's 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg in the opening game of the 22nd round in Bundesliga. Bremen on Friday secured a second straight win on the road as Gnarby was on target twice to edge wasteful Wolfsburg, who suffered their second defeat in row.

The match started on an even keel as both teams looked to attack from the get go. It was the visitors who broke the deadlock as Gnarby slotted home a deflected effort from the edge of the box that beat Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio 10 minutes into the contest.
