Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has extended his contract with the Spanish top division football club till 2026. Niguez's amazing long term deals spells disappointment for Manchester United, who were eyeing a summer move for the fantastic young Spaniard

The 22-year-old midfielder extended his contract for five more seasons and will be able to complete 14 seasons in the first team, if he remains until the end of his commitment, since he debuted in 2012, according to a club statement released on Saturday. His original contract was supposed to end in 2021.

Niguez played in the European Under-21 Championship with Spain, which lost the final on Friday to Germany 1-0, and the midfielder was the top scorer of the tournament with five goals.

 

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has extended his contract for three seasons, the French football club announced on Saturday.

The renewal of the 23-year-old Brazilian's contract came after the contract extension of Uruguayan Edinson Cavani and Brazilian Thiago Silva, until 2020, and Frenchman Presnel Kimpembe, until 2021.

Spanish football giants Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo said on Wednesday that midfielder Saul Ñiguez, whose performance at the Under-21 European Championship is rousing interest in other clubs, has a long term contract and is set to stay with Atletico.

Cerezo was speaking at the event to mark the renaming of the metro station outside Atletico's new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

There is "no reason to get too concerned" about Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid, the Spanish football club president Florentino Perez said, adding that it may be too soon to make a bid for French club Monaco's wonder kid Kylian Mbappe.

"Cristiano has a contract with Madrid," Perez was quoted as saying by Spanish radio El Primer Palo.

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo's former teammate Raul Meireles has said any English Premier League (EPL) club would be the Real Madrid star's ideal destination if he decides to leave Spain.

If Wayne Rooney can accept a bit-part role as opposed to the mainstay he was at English football giants Manchester United a few years back, the English forward could have a future at the club, former United star Ryan Giggs said.

"Wayne is a proven goal scorer," Giggs told Sky Sports News. "Give him a chance, Wayne will score.
