Roma and Lyon clinched their respective last-16 berths in the Europa League, while Athletic Bilbao were shocked by APOEL 2-0 to lose 4-3 on aggregate.

With a four-goal advantage going in to the return leg, Roma players slipped in their defence as Thomas Vermaelen's bad touch earned Rafael Borre a clear shot at goal from inside the box to break the deadlock in the 15th minute. However, the hole was too deep for the visitors to climb out. Roma finally made into the next round, despite seeing their 16-game unbeaten home run shattered.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has predicted the that the club will win the English Premier League (EPL) within the next four years.

"I have absolutely loved the way they have played - their football, the pace of the full-backs. Tottenham will go on and win the Premier League in the next three or four years," Redknapp told BBC Radio 5.

English football club Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday renewed the contract of young Harry Winks until 2022.

The 21-year-old English midfielder has played 25 games with Tottenham in all competitions this season, including two matches in the group stage of the Champions League.

Liverpool responded to Arsenal and Manchester United's wins earlier in the day, but it will be Chelsea's fans who will be ending Saturday with the biggest smiles on their faces as Tottenham Hotspur's slender hopes of chasing down the Blues in the race for the Premier League title appeared to go up in smoke following a dire first half display as Spurs went down 2-0 at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield.

Sadio Mane will draw all the plaudits as the Senegalese international celebrated his return to form after a disappointing end to the Africa Cup of Nations, with two goals inside a three minute spell that left Spurs looking absolutely clueless as their cavalier approach despite the absence of two key defenders left them vulnerable at the back.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said while he is happy with his side's three points against Middlesbrough, the game should have been killed off with the amount of chances they got.

Chances came and went with the key moment arriving in the 58th minute on Saturday when Son Heung-min was tackled by Espinosa Bernardo in the box and Harry Kane made no mistake from the penalty spot.

A 97th minute winner from South Korean forward Son Heung-min broke the hearts of the travelling fans of League Two side Wycome Wanderers, who came incredibly close to pulling off the upset of the round of the FA Cup but eventually went down 4-3 at White Hart Lane.

Wycome took a shock 2-0 lead into the break as skipper Paul Hayes followed up his 23rd minute volley with a penalty 13 minutes later, an advantage the visitors held on to go into the interval.

Predictably a little disappointed after seeing his Chelsea side go down 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane yesterday, Manager Antonio Conte was back smiling in his post match press conference as he spoke about what was needed to help Chelsea return to winning ways.

Conte said, "We are disappointed but also we must be pleased for our run as 13 wins in this league is not easy. Today we lost against a good team, a really strong team and don’t forget Tottenham fought last season for the title. Mauricio Pochettino has worked with his team for many years and they are improving, and they are one of the six teams that can fight to the end to win the title, or a place in the Champions League."
