Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has added yet another award to his trophy cabinet. The Argentine sensation was named the UEFA Best Player in Europe for the 2014-15 season, with him having helped his side to a treble.

Messi defeated fellow finalists, arch rival and last season’s winner Cristiano Ronaldo and clubmate, and former Liverpool star, Luis Suarez to the honour. This is the second time that the 28 year old has won the honour, with him having won it last in 2011, when UEFA first introduced the award. The player received the award from UEFA President Michel Platini at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Premier League giants Arsenal have been paired against reigning Bundesliga champions and bitter European rivals Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage this year.

The Gunners will surely not be happy with the pairing in Group F, considering the fact that they have been ousted of the European top tier competition by the side on two occasions in the recent past.

Spanish giants Real Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw by La Liga newbies Sporting Gijon in their opening league match of the 2015-16 season at El Molinón today.

The visitors started the match strongly, dominating possession, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale involved in most of their side’s attacking moves. The Welshman came close to scoring in the 13th minute itself, with the Gijon keeper far out of his comfort zone. However, the former Tottenham Hotspur star and Manchester United target failed to make the most out of the opportunity, with him missing the target from a tight angle and instead hitting the side netting with his effort.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is certainly not a man to mess with! The Special One has now hit back, following accusations from Rafael Benitez’s wife Montserrat Seara that her husband is currently "tidying up" another one of the Portuguese’s messes, at Real Madrid.

Mourinho was quoted by BBC Sport, saying: "The lady is a bit confused. Her husband went to Chelsea to replace Roberto Di Matteo and he went to Real Madrid and replaced Carlo Ancelotti. The only club where her husband replaced me was at Inter Milan, where in six months he destroyed the best team in Europe at the time."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is back in town and was quick to declare that his Belgian winger Eden Hazard is the best footballer in England. In fact, Mourinho didn't just stop there, stating that Hazard is better than Cristiano Ronaldo simply on the premise that the former led Chelsea to the Premier League crown last season, while Ronaldo failed in his quest to help Real Madrid pick up any silverware whatsoever.

Mourinho was in a chatty mood with journalists and spoke about a lot of issues, including throwing pot shots at rivals Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini, but his focus remains his own team as always, and Jose was quick to talk up the ability of Hazard.

Manchester City failed to give their fans a reason to cheer as the former Premier League Champions lost 4-1 to Real Madrid, with Los Blancos lifting the International Champions Cup in Melbourne.

The La Liga giants got the lead in the 21st minute when Karim Bezema scored an impressive goal from a volley, following a cross from Gareth Bale – one which Joe Hart seemed to have no chance of stopping.

The Serb ace made 7 appearances (he played in all their matches, except the one against Sporting Lisbon at home) for the Blues in their Champions League campaign this season, scoring a solitary goal and providing one assist. His contributions were vital in guiding the west London side to the round of 16 of the competition, where they eventually lost to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
