The BLACKCAPS have selected two spin options in their ODI squad to face Pakistan in the opening two matches of the GJ Gardner Homes Series. Allrounders Todd Astle and Mitchell Santner both feature in the 13 man squad, with Martin Guptill also returning to the side. The opening match of the series is on 6 January at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

BLACKCAPS Selector Gavin Larsen said having both Astle and Santner gave the team options.

A 12 man squad has been named for the New Zealand XI side to play West Indies in a 50 over warm-up match in Whangarei on Saturday. It will be the West Indies first while ball match of the tour, with their first ODI against the BLACKCAPS to be played on the 20th in Whangarei.

Wellington’s Tom Blundell will make his Test debut in the BLACKCAPS first match of the summer against the West Indies this week. Blundell replaces BJ Watling in the side, who is unavailable to wicketkeep in the match due to a hip injury. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has also joined the squad to add depth to the seam bowling department.

Selector Gavin Larsen said Blundell had shown a lot of improvement.

A fighting half-century from captain Suzie Bates and some superb bowling has helped the WHITE FERNS claim a 42-run victory in the third Twenty20 International against Pakistan in Sharjah.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bates and the WHITE FERNS top order found the early going tough and were 31-3 after the opening seven overs.

India captain Virat Kohli has moved back to the top position among batsmen in the ICC ODI Player Rankings within 10 days of losing it to South Africa batsman AB de Villiers.

In the latest rankings update that takes into account India’s home series against New Zealand which India won 2-1 on Sunday, as well as the last match of the South Africa-Bangladesh series and the last two matches of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series, Kohli has also reached a career-high in terms of rating points.

Wallabies have defeated New Zealand 23-18 in a Bledisloe Cup clash for the ages at a rain-soaked Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

The match came down to the final moments as the Wallabies, holding a narrow lead, held out a late surge by the New Zealanders to register their first win over their Trans-Tasman rivals since August 2015.

A groin strain has ruled out Todd Astle from the BLACKCAPS upcoming ODI and Twenty20 series against India. Astle suffered the injury in a warm-up game between the BLACKCAPS and a President Board’s XI in Mumbai on Tuesday. Further assessment and a scan confirmed Astle to have suffered a tear on his right side, which will see him ruled out for around three weeks.

Ish Sodhi, who was originally only named in the Twenty20 squad, will replace Astle in the ODI side.
