Luka Modric’s dream move to Real Madrid has once again hit the rocks as The Sun report that Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy has stepped in to demand more for the Croatian star. Madrid had seemingly agreed upon a £35m deal with Spurs for Modric, who even flew out to Spain to complete his move. But Levy has reportedly made a last minute demand of a further £2m fee from Madrid, much to the infuriation of Jose Mourinho.

The ‘Special One’ is rumoured to have had a heated exchanged with the Tottenham chairman yesterday over the fresh demands, leaving Modric worried about his future once again. The transfer saga has rolled on throughout the summer owing to Tottenham’s harsh stance and with the transfer window closing in less than two week’s time there could be more drama.

With Luka Modric nearing an exit from White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has stepped up his search for a replacement, and now is ready to make a move for Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles after being priced out of a move for fellow Portuguese international Joao Moutinho.

It was Villas-Boas who swooped for Meireles last year as well, as the then-Chelsea boss signed the midfielder in a £12 million deal from Liverpool. However, with the Blues stocking up on midfielders this summer, Meireles has been strongly linked with an exit, with Napoli leading the chase for the 29-year old.

Fatigued by the regular stalling in developments regarding their prospective purchase of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric, Real Madrid have issued one final take-it-or-leave-it offer of £30 million to Spurs for the Croatian midfielder according to media reports.

The two sides have been haggling over the player's price all summer, with Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy showing his usual doggedness over a refusal to budge from his asking price for the 26-year old.

Spurs have held their ground over Modric's £40m price tag, a fee Madrid have refused to pay hitherto, thus leaving the 26 year old in limbo.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Villas-Boas said: “I think the player has to understand that the club cannot do anything about other clubs' offers. We have a value and an interest that we have to defend, and we are waiting to reintegrate the player if the offer is not matched.”
