The Barcelona squad returned to training on Monday after a one-week camp in England, as 10 international footballers rejoined the workouts.

The squad had a rest on Sunday, while Monday's training saw the return of Spanish internationals Jordi Alba, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets.

India lost 3-2 to Spain  in Madrid on Thursday night, in the second game of their two-match pre-Olympic tour.

The high-scoring encounter started off cagily as both teams started off the blocks slowly, defending deep and not looking for adventurous forays into the others half. Spain were the ones who came closest in the first quarter, with a PC which was defended by India to ensure they went into the first break tied in a stalemate.

Sevilla forward Carlos Fernandez, currently taking part in his team's camp in Orlando in the United States, will be sidelined for four weeks following a thigh injury, according to the Spanish football club.

Fernandez, 20, sustained his injury during the early training days of the first team, which has set up camp in the United States under the command of Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli in preparation for the new season, reports Efe.

The Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) has taken the unusual step of hiring its own private security firm for next month's Olympic Games, according to media reports.

The Marca newspaper on Sunday said the COE had contracted Madrid-based Prosegur to shadow the country's athletes and officials during their stay in Rio.

Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista on Sunday said Spain is already thinking about their possible opponents in the play-offs for the World Group in the 2016 Davis Cup after their 4-1 win over Romania.

Bautista, who beat Romanian Florin Mergea with 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the Group 1 Europe/Africa, in Cluj-Napoca, told Efe that the team had already discussed their potential future opponents in the changing room after the match. Bautista said he was happy with the way his team had played, adding that it is often difficult to play outside your home country.

Spanish motorcycle road racer Marc Marquez eased to victory in Sunday's 2016 German MotoGP Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, extending his points lead as the riders head into the second half of the season.

Marquez (Repsol Honda RC213), completed the race in 47 minutes, 3.239 seconds, 9.857 seconds ahead of second place Briton, Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda), reports Efe.

Former Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was on Friday honoured by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after he announced he was leaving La Roja and retiring as a coach.

Del Bosque received the honour amid a standing ovation at the Ordinary General Assembly of the RFEF, to which the retiring coach said they can depend on him when needed.
