Cristiano Ronaldo wants to see out his contract at Real Madrid but is doubtful about his future thereafter.

According to reports in the Spanish Media, the former Manchester United star wants a wage-hike that could see him earn 15 million pounds annually. The Real Madrid board’s refusal to comply with the ambitious wage demands could paved the way for a move to cash-rich Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United this summer.

The contenders for this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or award for the best player of 2012 and for the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year 2012 award were announced today at a press conference held at the Anhembi Convention Center in São Paulo attended by FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke, L'Equipe and France Football CEO François Morinière, and legendary Brazilian players Ronaldo and Marta, who won the FIFA player of the year award three and five times respectively.

In alphabetical order, the FIFA Ballon d'Or nominees are: Cristiano RONALDO, Portugal, Andres INIESTA, Spain and Lionel MESSI, Argentina, while MARTA, Brazil, Alex MORGAN, USA and Abby WAMBACH, USA will contest the women's award.

karim_benzemaManchester City needed to win at home against Real Madrid and hope other results went their way to keep their aspiration of sneaking into the last 16 of the Champions League [alive, whereas Real were looking to avoid defeat to go through. It was not to be for City though as 10-man Real Madrid hung on for a share of the spoils, while Borussia Dortmund thumped Ajax 4-1 in Amsterdam to send the English Champions stumbling out of the competition at the group stage for the second year running.

Manchester City were clearly the better side on the night but Real Madrid created the better chances and despite playing the last 20 minutes with 10 men, they hung on for a deserved 1-1 draw to ensure progression to the knockout stages. City will look at the match as a missed opportunity and had they played from the start like they did in the 2nd half, they could have gotten a different result.

Four days after announcing the names of the candidates for the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year and the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women's Football for 2012 awards, FIFA and France Football have today revealed the names for the men's awards.

The candidates for the FIFA Ballon d'Or and for the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men's Football awards have been unveiled (see below). The final decisions will be made by the captains and head coaches of the men's national teams as well as by international media representatives selected by France Football.
