Manchester United winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan has credited current Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp for teaching him how to cope with the tougher times in his career. The Armenian star spent two years with Klopp at German side Borussia Dortmund after he was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013.

"I'm thankful to him as he worked a lot on me - on my personality, on my psychology - because I was really very stressed after a few games that we played badly," he told BBC on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has warned his players not to go overboard with celebrations following their victory over Tottenham Hotspur in an English Premier League (EPL) clash.

Liverpool rode on first half goals from star winger Sadio Mané to beat Tottenham 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday. The result saw them climb to the fourth spot on the table with 49 points from 25 matches. But with league leaders Chelsea on 59 points from 24 games, Klopp warned that his team still have a mountain to climb in order to catch up.

Liverpool responded to Arsenal and Manchester United's wins earlier in the day, but it will be Chelsea's fans who will be ending Saturday with the biggest smiles on their faces as Tottenham Hotspur's slender hopes of chasing down the Blues in the race for the Premier League title appeared to go up in smoke following a dire first half display as Spurs went down 2-0 at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield.

Sadio Mane will draw all the plaudits as the Senegalese international celebrated his return to form after a disappointing end to the Africa Cup of Nations, with two goals inside a three minute spell that left Spurs looking absolutely clueless as their cavalier approach despite the absence of two key defenders left them vulnerable at the back.

Liverpool legend Ian Rush on Thursday put his weight behind club striker and England international Daniel Sturridge to return to form and fire the Reds to a top-four finish.

"Daniel Sturridge is probably the most gifted striker we have got," Rush told the Daily Mail. "I was made up that he didn't go in January and I hope he is still here next year but you have got to fight for your place. I think he will fight for his place," he added.

The 2017-18 English Premier League (EPL) football season will kick off on August 12, 2017 and will end on May 13, 2018. The EPL on Tuesday announced the timeframe of the upcoming season in a brief statement on its official Twitter account, reports Efe.

The EPL tweet said: "The #PL 2017-18 season will start on 12th August 2017 & end on 13th May 2018. The 2017-18 champions will be__?"

Manchester United defeated hosts Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium thanks to a seven minute spell where the visitors made their dominance count on either side of half time.

On Sunday, Armenia's Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the opening goal for the visitors in the 42nd minute after a long run through Leicester's defence, before taking a shot from about 12 yards out that powered its way into Kasper Schmeichel's net.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said the Merseyside football club needs a "a different plan" if it is to improve and it has only the sixth-best squad in the English Premier League.

Liverpool on Saturday suffered a shock defeat to Hull City, further compounding their sorry run of form through 2017. Jurgen Klopp's side is now 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea and in danger of slipping out of the top four.
